Eminem needs inspiration...

Postby mcZu » Dec 31st, '10, 21:45

He needs something to rap about. OK, I'm not saying he should rap about politics per se, but he needs something to focus on whilst writing and crafting his songs. He needs to come up with some brilliant concepts.. Let's face it, he doesn't know what to rap about any more. The songs about Proof, his drugs problem, and Kim haven't been executed properly, plus he can't rap about those topics for the rest of his career.

His music just isn't relatable any more as it used to be. It seems, to me, that he lost his inspiration. He could rap about his current situation, rap about how difficult it is being a famous father to a teenage daughter. About his current situation with Kim, or any other woman he's dating for that matter. He could rap about the industry, about Hip Hop, about his fans.. There are endless possibilities.

I, seriously, fear the worst if he doesn't come up with something interesting to rap about. He has already declined to a certain level, and I don't want to see him fall off even more than he already has.

I totally agree. It's almost like he doesn't have anything to talk about anymore. Recovery was a terrific return to form in my opinion, but since that everything he has put out (except I Need A Doctor) has been devoid of much emotion. Even in Echo and Living Proof I think that he raps well in terms of lyricism and delivery, but I don't feel he reaches the emotion he was able to generate before. So he is kind of relying on rapid-fire spitting and punchlines. And although you can sit back and say "yea technically that was great", for me Em is at his best when he puts emotion and storytelling into his music and allows you to relate to what he is going through.

To be honest, as much as I love to hear new Em stuff I think he should stop with the features, especially those with people outside his camp. Jumping on other people's tracks is forcing him to rap about themes that he didn't necessarily come up with himself. He's out there spitting wack verses with Nicki Minaj cuz it's keeping him in the limelight but we're still seemingly a long way from a new D12 album. I'm starting to think a little break from Em stuff might do both us the fans and Em himself some good.

I'd prefer these shitty lyrics over 90% of his current stuff.

I kinda agree with you. He needs to stop rapping about drugs and women he loves or doesn't love. If he doesn't find inspiration he'll just be rapping about nonsense like Lil Wayne.

Yeah, these are wack except for the last 2, those are OK. These are fake I bet. Let's be honest, he wouldn't say "forget Recovery" he'd say "fuck Recovery". And saying "masses" is the trademark of an amateur lyricist, I see it constantly in those stupid Youtube freestyles people type. I think people think "masses" sounds real intelligent or something. It's dumb. It's like when everyone ends their verses in -ion and thinks it's dope. Example:

My mission is to eliminate my competion
I'm bout to blow up like nuclear fission
I feel the tension, give me your full attention
Prepare to be put into critical condition

^I wrote those with 0 thought at all in 10 seconds. Incredibly wack and people think these kinda written lines are dope because they have "big" words. :facepalm

This is a problem... A big problem. He has outrapped his family life, Proof's death and his drug abuse, so what now Em? He needs another disaster in his life to get him back... Maybe we could stage a car accident? :shifty:

Totally agree Zu.

Look at his best songs since his comeback: Deja Vu, Going Through Changes, You're Never Over - what do they have in common? He had something to get of his chest - stories to tell or things he wanted/needed to share. All things he was inspired to write.

I think he needs to find cool concepts/storys, because he is most likely all out of personal stuff. And if he isn't gonna write concepts/personal stuff he should really focus on being witty again instead of the straight up punchlines. And please, stop saying ho in every verse/song.

I think he has a few songs that people can relate to from Recovery. Not Afraid people can relate to a great deal, LTWYL, 25 To Life I can really relate to, almost word for word, up until the "fuck you hip hop" line. Where I'm At, you can relate to. That's All She Wrote you can relate to

It's an exaggeration to say he doesn't know what to rap about. He's been rapping about relationships lately, and I HOPE to God that you guys can relate to failed relationships

Some verses he's been rapping nonsense, but if you critique him so hard for that, then you must not like SSLP because most of those songs he said random lines like he does now. Relapse as well. The lyricism isn't as good, but it's still pretty good IMO. He still has it, and everyone knows this, he just needs to be...inspired, like the title says

Came back to annihilate, the game's in dire straights, as I await
Word on Satan, as I drop, fall to my knees before this Quija board and I pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin' now, imagine if I awake
