What are the Recovery beats that FIT Em's style

Postby OMEGA » Apr 4th, '11, 17:59

I've seen some people giving shit to Recovery because of the production. Although I feel that that's definitely the "weaker" aspect of the album (and probably of any Em album except for Encore), I think it's crazy to call it bad, or mediocre, or anything like that-- it's just different.

I was wondering, of all the beats on the album, what are the ones that you think fit Eminem's style, and the ones that should be similar to whatever he does next. For me:

- On Fire -- Classic Em style, and one of the greatest, more cinematic beats he has rapped over. Mr. Porter definitely knows his Eminem, and he should keep producing for him.

- W.T.P -- Really like this one, and I think it fits the "raunchy", grungy style of Em.

- Cinderella Man -- Another one of those awesome, pump-you-up beats. Clapping, pumping bass, epic vocals-- everything that makes a classic.

- So Bad -- Dre can do no wrong when producing for Em. Fits his Slim Shady style perfectly.

- Almost Famous -- Another vicious, rockish type of beat that goes along perfectly with Eminem, specially his "shouting" style.

- Untitled -- Dark, memorable beat that goes along well with Slim's crazy flow and delivery.

- Ridaz -- Probably the best from the whole bunch. Fucking vicious and accentuates the content and delivery of the song even more.

I dig Recovery's production, even the beats that are not really Em's style (No Love, Seduction, 25 to Life), but if I had to choose what direction he should go forward, I'd go with the style of the production that I listed above.

What about yourself?

This!

Agree about 25 To Life. Really amazing beat tbh. And yeah, Khalil is amazing, he's done so many dope tracks.

Agree with No Love too. I've always been a massive fan of Just Blaze, because he produced one of my favourite songs of all-time (Live Your Life by T.I. and Rihanna) from T.I.'s album, Paper Trail. Eminem has said in a few interviews how much he loved Paper Trail, so perhaps it's from there that he got Just Blaze to produce for him?

Agree about the Haddaway thing too. When I first heard that Eminem was going to sample him, I was literally like "Em, sampling....90's eurodance!?!?". I was partly dreading hearing it, but it's an actually incredible beat to be honest. It's an amazing case of sampling tbh, Just Blaze changed it so much. Completely different mood, heck, completely differe genre!! Really, really impressed tbh. Don't know how he did that.

I agree with most of the other beats in the OP too.

One that hasn't been mentioned is Love the Way You Lie's beat. It's not the best on the album, but I think if the percussion and guitar were toned down a bit, and there was more piano all the way through the song, rather than just in the intro, I think it's be a pretty amazing beat. And it would've been good if they used a different chord progression in it too, I mean, the one that it has does it's job, but it's too "normal", so to speak. That chord progression has been used in soooooo many songs already.

Cold Wind Blows, On Fire, W.T.P., Going Through Changes, Seduction (I think he sounds good over the beat, not really his style but the beat fits in this case), Cinderella Man, So Bad, Almost Famous, Untitled, Session One, and Ridaz.

Yeah, the production has grown on me a lot since its release.

I remember Just Blaze said in an interview that when Em first heard the beat, he was like "wtf :confusion: " Cuz he didn't really know how to interpret it lol Needless to say, they totally flipped the song around and produced a dope track :y:

Like Trigger, a lot of the tracks have grown on me. I'll admit that the beats aren't very Eminem-ish, but the ones he used were not bad at all and hardly sound like shit you'd hear on mainstream - except for Boi-1da's beats.

I'm just glad Swizz Beats ain't on there...

Yeah, I can totally imagine that tbh. Em did really well with that beat. If you listen to it by itself, I can understand someone not knowing what they're supposed to do with it. :D

Yeah, Swizz Beatz did Roman's Revenge, didn't he? And that wasn't really well-received (at least not on here), so it's probably good he wasn't on Recovery. I like some of the songs he's done though. I always liked On the the Next One on Jay-Z's album. But I don't think he'd suit Em very well.

W.T.P- great harmony on the track.

Untitled and 25 to life where good too.

But, if there is a direction i'd love to see him move to - Living Proof. I miss it when Eminem made music just for the fun of it. "effortlessness" sounds great on that organic beat.
