If Recovery Never Happened

Postby Elision » Apr 10th, '11, 00:10

I feel that even though Recovery has been getting a lot of hate lately -- that it was absolutely necessary. Yeah, less multi's, corny punchlines here and there, but I really don't think he was focused on the lyrical side of things as much as just clearing shit up. I think that in Relapse he more than established the fact that he's still perfectly capable of being extremely lyrical.

Songs like 25 to Life, Talking to Myself, Going Through Changes and of course You're Never Over were pertinent. He needed to clear up those topics that he avoided and/or wasn't ready to talk about on Relapse.

I feel that if Recovery never happened, there would be a lot more drama here than just hating the beats/lyrics. Because like I said -- I don't feel that he was aiming so much for the technical side of lyricism as much as the deeper, more emotional side of things -- and overcoming those demons he's been having to deal with.

Just my two cents ;)

On a side note: Everybody bitched and moaned about his work on Relapse, so he changed it up, and they still bitched. There's no winning :facepalm

For once I actually agree with you, homosexual burning man attendant.

I've always felt that Recovery will go down as one of the most important albums of his career, whether or not you liked the final product.

I'll edit this post later with more insight when I feel compelled to do so, but good topic :smoking:

Who cares if people bitched about both albums? It's probably because both albums sucked. I shouldn't have to call either Encore and Re-Up good because they're different styles.

I agree with you. I just expected something a little bit different. But I never had a problem with recovery, I had a problem with the post recovery work. Most of these collaborations aren't interesting because he's always talking about the same shit over and over again. Recovery was his last album where he was able to talk about his personal problems without being boring because his drug addiction was still kinda new and he had to put it out. But at the same time, thats the reason his new songs are uninteresting, he has nothing to talk about anymore. He said it all on recovery. Personally i'm glad because for once in his career i would like to hear his album where he doesnt just talk about himself. Plus after relapse and recovery, I dont wanna hear another album about drugs, women and how he shits on other rappers

On the money.

Relapse was terrible, Recovery was considerably less so but still bad due to how artificial it was. You could remove my frontal lobe and I still couldn't manage to sound as indifferent and dissociated from the content as Em did.

Yes.

Revovery was dope. An important album to the Eminem story. I still listen to it maybe once every week or two.

But TBH,Who knws if Em even likes Recovery, I would think he's even sick of NA and LTWYL. It proved one think though, especially after listening to the writers block years, lyrically he's getting back to he's best.

His next album should be a game changer.

Seen Em live twice. Thanks Slim.

He needed this album to become relevant again, I don't hate Recovery, I don't love it either more in between. I think it has some low points but it also had some very well written tracks. I have not liked the post recovery guest appearances and his selection of beats to spit over. In terms of having nothing to write about he can write about Detroit he never wrote a proper track dedicated to something like uniting the city and moving forward. Not some corny Not Afraid shit though. He can always write about, social commentary, motivational(work out type tracks),Battle tracks etc.

In terms of flow I like his flow from Warning/So Bad/Ridaz. Also like the beats on those tracks..
