I think Em has wasted some of his best beats

Postby FalseProphet » Jun 9th, '11, 21:50

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't REALLY mean "wasted", but more-so didn't use them to their full potential.

I'm talking about the 2pac album he produced Loyal 2 the Game. I think these are some of his best beats, and this was also made when Eminem was in his prime, he could have absolutely killed it on some of them. I do still really like the album over all, and the 2pac verses sound great, but putting previously recorded pac verses on newly produced beats can never compare to crafting a verse after hearing the beat. I'm just saying some of these beats with eminem rapping the entire song could have been absolutely classic, and on par with the best he has ever done. Agree/disagree?

I disagree.

Eminem's prime is generally considered 1999-2002. Loyal to the Game was released in 2004. Obviously 2004 is the Encore era where Eminem was drugged up and couldn't really write anything to his past standards. This is reflected in the vast majority of music he had put out during this era.

There's no way that in this time period, regardless of the beat he was rapping over, would produce songs up to par with his classics. You really think the Eminem who wrote Ass Like That would have written a song to the standard of Lose Yourself/Sing For The Moment? No, the contrast between the songs is far too extreme. He just wouldn't have been able to.

Granted, Loyal to the Game had decent production. I do really like the Ghetto Gospel beat; he did a good job on that. The fact remains that he would never had written songs "on par with the best he has ever done" during that time period.

Touche. I didn't check the date recently but for some reason I thought Loyal 2 the game was around 2002, since it's actually from 04 you're totally correct. Encore-eminem on those beats would have been a disaster =/

We'll never know how much of the work he actually did. The label using Eminem's name (which was a pretty big deal back then) was a sure sale booster, and for all we know he only did some minor mastering.

In my opinion Em has always had a slightly strange history of beats. They aren't extremely impressive from a technical standpoint, but they always have a very unique melody that is very appealing (to me at least) With that being said I dont think his style of beats would work well with most rappers flows/styles. I know he has made a select few beats for other rappers like Jay-z and nas, but the majority of his beats are only suited for a very specific type of rap. I love his production, but it definitely has a relatively narrow width of application. What I mean is, rappers don't have a lot of leeway or options for where they want to take the beats, the beats themselves already have a very specific path.

He's a great talent, but he's wasted most of his career making lame jokes and dissing pop stars instead of focusing on making great songs consistently.

SSLP, MMLP and TES? I think he's done pretty well. His last two studio albums have had some great songs, too.

I've always wanted him to rap over the beat he produced for Jay-Z...'Moment of Clarity'

these days its all about the production on his songs man.

Beats matter, beats matter a lot.

Only if he starts producing his own songs again, with the same type of shit he's spitting these days with the same style, shit would sound incredible, much better than how it sounds now.

He would flow better. Not that he doesn't flow good now, its just that he would generally sound better.

Ever since Recovery he had these stupid ass producers making beats for him. Fuck that shit.

When I listen to Moment of Clarity I can hear that Eminem doesn't really take into account other rapper's flows. It sounds more like a standard beat for himself, rather than something made specifically for Jay-Z. It'd be awesome if he rapped on that track himself.
