Wrong, Drake's on Forever's verse, but il let it slide :D

Because he was dedicated to Relapse and worked real hard to produce a great record.

Recovery was more forced than worked on properly :y:

Well, firstly, Elevator hook =

And in general, yes, Relapse era hooks were better. I really prefer when he does them.

The quality of the Recovery hooks was bad too, especially on On Fire and So Bad. Ridaz has a great hook, probaly cause its a Relapse Era song

It's funny though, because On Fire, So Bad and Ridaz were probably all meant for Relapse 2.

On Fire was produced by Porter, so it's very possible. Others by Dre.

Done in Hawaii in 2008 from what I remember.

Hmm possibly, perhaps they were the tracks which hooks were the lesser great ones than the other Relapse 2 songs so he felt it was acceptable, dunno though.

I really cant wait for him to spit over another Dre beat, puts more effort into it, probaly cause Dre is with him at the time and they have the best chemistry.

Im listening to Stay Wide Awake right now and that would have been a crazy song to make together, can picture Em in the booth and Dre's head bobbing along with it :smoking:

I love the So Bad hook I don't see what's wrong with this one.

Stay Wide Awake is actually unbelievable man.

In the verse's when he rhymes for example he stops mid-word and goes to the next line.. 'impregnate a lesbian yeah, now lets see her have triplets and il di-
sintegrate them babies...'

He done it a few times on BME, but because he was flowing so fast and the flow was wrong it sounded bad.

Relapse is a work of art for sure :y:

Crack A Bottle, My Mom, Insane, 3 AM Bagpipes, Music Box, and Buffalo Bill were all poor to average hooks in my opinion.

Also, I'd hardly call "We Made You" Eminem's hook... since it was him supporting female vocals on it (other way around I'd let it slide, but not here)

However... overall I agree. Relapse>Recovery/BME for hooks. I've said it before but I can't stand the male vocals (besides Em) that were used on Recovery

The beats he got would have already had hooks, like LTWYL, Cinderalla Man (which judging by the title I thought was going to be about the boxer, or comparing himself to the boxer, not the fuxking female Disney character...), Won't Back Down, Talking 2 Myself all came with hooks. Pretty much only Dre and Mr. Porter gave him bare beats I think.

Should have been this for the full album man, with some Em production.

Cold Wind Blows beat was fucking unbelievable though, best song on Recovery

You really want him to embarrass himself trying to sing Space Bound's hook?

I suspect he's been doing less hooks because...

Firstly, he was obviously trying to connect to a larger audience with Recovery. Paul even said he was aiming 'wider', he was intentionally trying to make the album a bigger commercial connection.

So, because of that, sung hooks are usually essential and there's only so much he can do with his voice, given his vocal limitations in that department.

He also likes everything to get bigger and better in some way every time. Even on Encore, he was trying on certain songs there to push it somewhere new. When he started out he was doing rap hooks, then you'll notice he tried to progress it to rock-inspired hooks...

And lately he's been trying to sing the best he can as, the next step from rapping, for a hook, is usually singing. To make it feel 'bigger' and more affecting.

I feel it's laziness on his part though as he's shown recently with hooks like "Deja Vu" and "Must Be the Ganja" that he can use the notes he can hit to create very catchy, melodic hooks. It's almost like they're trick hooks, he's almost not singing... but he is. But they sound great.

With Producers going for more and more samples it's difficult to get him to do the Hook all by himself.
