Question about Spacebound

Postby Wreck » Dec 2nd, '11, 09:43

Ok, so at first I thought the chorus was a slowed down sample from another song, then I heard that musician Steve McEwan sings the hook.

Now that could mean it was sampled, or wasn't. For example, Sing For The Moment sampled not only the melody but the chorus, then Steven Tyler also re-SANG the chorus for the song, not only making it a sample, but an actual non-sample chorus.

Ok so my question is- did McEwan actually sing the chorus (I dunno if he actually sounds like that, it sounds like a girls voice/I thought it was a girl singing it tbh) & Em just altered the pitch, or was it a sample with an altered pitch? I'm just curious, because Jim Jonsin, who produced it, is known for his samples a lot, so it would make sense for it to be a sampled beat.

Thanks to anybody with info on this.

All of the lyrics were written by Em. So it was not sampled.

It's not uncommon. Rappers often get other artists to do parts of their songs. Listen to the intro:

Em didn't write the hook. O_O It came with the beat.

The initial concept remained mostly intact, and the song's chorus acted as a guide for the Detroit MC to add his own twist. "The chorus was based off of a chase, a guy who's chasing after a woman that he's crazy about," Jonsin said of the theme. "He loves her; she's everything to him. I'm a rocket ship aiming at her heart, her heart's the moon — I'm going full-on."

Bam.

All that's saying is that he wrote the hook first. Look at the Recovery pamphlet.

Learn something new everyday bro :o :smoking:.

And this answers my question then, I'm surprised, I really thought it was a sample, it sounds like one.

I still have one question though, that can't be the guy's normal voice, the pitch had to be altered slightly or is that really his voice? Would be shocked.

No. He didn't re-sing it.It's mentioned in the COMC boom as to what actually went down.
Marshall got pissed off at him when they were backstage at Aerosmith's concert. Marshall said he was talking to Steve Tyler about using the music from their "Dream On" song for a track on his new CD. Marshall wanted to use the original version but Steven Tyler offered to redo the vocals for the track and give him the 2002 version. Marshall tried to turn him down. Marshall said he was thinking it would sound like shit because Steven's voice does not sound the same anymore, but he did not want to say that. So here's Kid Rock who Marshall said was pretty trashed, and he started saying stuff like " hey, this is fucking Areosmith here! You don't turn down Aerosmith, what's wrong with you?" Put on the spot, Marshall accepted Steven Tyler's offer. He said he wanted to kill Bob!

Turns out, Marshall said the new version did sound like shit and he decided to go with the old version anyway which offended Steven Tyler. Marshall said he was on the phone with him for over and hour trying to smooth things over. He had to use some reason other then the truth, that Steven Tyler's voice is not what it used to be.

Wow, I'm shocked, I never knew this. Thanks for posting that, good read. Lol @ the Kid Rock part. Sidebar: How come we never hear shit like this about Em & Bob's relationship? Obviously we had the collab in '99 & I heard they've played bball together at one another's house, but nothing besides that. Em is so private, especially in the last 5-6 years right after Encore dropped.
