Old Eminem & Benzino Hot97 Interviews | 2002

Postby 2PointOBoy » Jan 17th, '12, 14:24

I just found this old interview from November 2002 when Eminem called into Hot97 radio to speak with the station's Angie Martinez about Benzino and the whole beef and thought I'd share it here. Now, this was after Benzino had claimed that Eminem had bad-mouthed The Source when he spoke to Em at a show in Puerto Rico and had dissed Em in "Pull Your Skirts Up." Eminem had then called into a 50 Cent hosted Hot97 show and called Benzino "Hasbenzino" and said some insulting things and then put out The Sauce, Nail In The Coffin and The Realest Label on DJ Green Lantern's The Invasion mixtape, dissing Benzino and The Source. Then Benzino talked shit about Eminem's place in hip-hop & put out Die Another Day with a recorded phone conversation of Paul Rosenberg requesting him to squash the beef... The Eminem interview is about a week after that.

After the Eminem interview is Benzino's interview which happened two weeks after Eminem's...

I'm assuming a lot of people didn't already know about this:

Eminem: I'd like to comment on this little whatever..

Angie: Feud...? I saw it on MTV the other day, it's official..

Eminem: It's crazy... His first time on MTV and he was on 106 & Park too. I'm bringing him success. I buried him already..

Angie: Would you be referring to the song on the Green Lantern Mixtape?

Eminem: I would be referring to the new one that he has with the fake "Victory" beat , I think he calls it "I Lost".... And all this gangsta stuff he talks about, Mr. Tough Guy and this and that , this dude talks about killing my daghter on a record... He does not want to take it there... If he really wanted to take it to the street level then he wouldn't have went back to the studio.

Angie: Did anything happen for you to spark this?

Eminem: I swear on my daughter's life Angie, I have never met this Man... this girl... woman. She is obsessed with me... I think, since I been out for 4 years, people forgot that I came from the bottom... I remember Kon Artis told me back in the day when we waa flippin' burgers that I was sayin', "I can't get a deal 'cause I'm white, it's cuz I'm white..." But you know what? I flipped the cards.. that I was dealt in life & now I'm sellin' more records because I'm white... and this dude is a fat 40 year old shriveled up prune with big puffy clown hair.. So take them cards that you're dealt and try to flip them cards.

Don't blame me 'cause you suck, 'cause you can't flip the cards. This dude Angie, after hearing his last record, could possibly be the worst rapper in the world.

Angie: In your opinion..?

Eminem : In a lot of people's opinion. I never thought I would see the day when I see the worst rapper in the world goin' against one of the best... I'm makin' the beats too now.. I did tracks for Jay, Nas, for X for free... I don't even charge for the track, 'cause for me it's not about the money it's about hip-hop.

...

Angie: Eminem's on the phone (???)
Eminem: They say when you hit 40 that you go through your second childhood, I think that's what this man is going through ...

Angie: Have you ever spoken to him?

Eminem: I never even spoke to this man. You can't speak to this man 'cause he records conversations... What if I call this man and threaten him?

Angie: How do you know that?

Eminem: Because he took a tape and called Paul... Angie you know Paul, he's not a fighter, it's his job to de-escalate it. I think it's a midlife crisis, he's done everything from Will Smith records to "Rock The Party"... trying to come back to the streets...

Angie: Is he really gettin under your skin?

Eminem: The only reason I answered this clown is because of the extortion.. going on between him and Dave Mays, nobody wanted to address it in the business, you talk to anybody in the business & I'm not going to put you on blast Angie... We all know what's goin' on at The Source... Ray Benzino got Dave Mays shook, you can't be a rapper & own half of a magazine 'cause what happens is, when you call rappers to do a guest appearance & they don't want to do it 'cause you suck, then he's gonna shut you out of his magazine...

Angie: So that's what motivated you..?

Eminem: That's what motivated me. You know what bothers me is the mic rating system. When I was growing up The Source was a bible to Hip-Hop. Their word was gold. He even said in his song he's the five mic giver, you can't do that. You can't play both sides... he's fuckin' the game up.

Angie: I know you have yet to see a 5 Mic review in The Source...

Eminem: I have yet to receive a 4 1/2. Everybody gets a 4, that's the standard. If you get a 4 1/2, it must mean Benzino wants you on his album & as far as him calling me a "Culture Stealer," as far as my contribution to Hip-Hop... What's the difference between Dave Mays & Jonathan Schecter when they started The Source 13 years ago? It was to make hip-hop bigger. If I can take Hip-Hop & open it up to white people... so that artists like Nelly, Ludacris, Nas, Jay-Z, Ja Rule, Cam Ron can sell more records, then that's my contribution..

He can scrounge up change and call you from a pay phone. He can scream, jump up & down, go back into the studio & make a 100,000 more records about me & base his whole life about me, I will not make another song about this man. This guy is so wack, I can't even get D12 to do a song with me. They're like, "Why are you wasting energy? This guy is wack." I'm in a position where, the more attention I pay to something the bigger that it gets.

Angie: How are you not (going to pay attention)? What if the dude keeps makin' song after song after song?

Eminem: He's done. He's speakin' from the grave. I put the 'nail in the coffin.' I buried him with dirt. I'm not even sure he's in a coffin... I just put him in a hole and threw dirt on him.

Angie: What would happen if you see this dude man?

Eminem: I'm on probation.. So I would really not like to comment on that. I will let it be known that I got 3 months left on probation

Angie: Your song is No.1 today...

Eminem: That's a beautiful thing.

Angie: How do you decide who you respond to?

Eminem: If I get 10 people coming to me on the street saying why is such & such dissin' you, if it gets to the point where I hear it everywhere I go. But this woman here, she is done... she is outta my life.

http://www.daveyd.com/eminemvsbenzino.html
Benzino: "Yo, I'm from da hood! I'm reppin' for my people man!! I rep the block!! This is for hip hop!! Hip hop is da streets!!"

Angie: But why don't you have beef with any of the other artists who are selling like Nelly and Ja? Why Em?

Benzino: 'Cause this cracka don't know nothing about the streets! I'm from the streets! I'm reppin for all my ghetto niggas man! This cracka think he can come here and extort hip-hop! Hip-hop is the streets!

Angie: Is this 'cause he's white? Why did you just use the word cracka?

Benzino: Yo, forget you Angie!! He called me a woman and a bitch in that interview with you, and you let him get away with it, so I have the right to call him a cracka! What's your problem?!

Angie: But you're using a racial slur here Ben...

Benzino: So what? You know that white boy wants to call us niggas, but he wont do it 'cause that would be the end of his career! He's dying to call us all niggas, but he can't do that. I thought you was with me on this, and I'm sad to see that you not. That white boy obviously brainwashed you!.

Angie: Brainwashed? I don't appreciate that at all Ben. You need to accept the fact that people don't agree with you.

Benzino: But the streets DO agree with me!!

Angie: But a lot of people dont, and you need to understand that!

Benzino: I do understand that. Bottom line is this white boy don't know nothing about the streets. And if he's listening, we can fight anywhere... Denmark, Alaska, Detroit. Set it up and I'll destroy you.

Angie: What about some people saying that you're dissing Em to boost your record sales?

Benzino: C'mon now, let me say this... ya boy Ben is financially set. I don't need to do this hip hop thing anymore. Angie, we both from the same label. You know how I get down. True, I never sold any records, but it ain't about rap to me. It's about connecting with the hood and the streets. I don't know nothing about fame and being arrogant. I'm with my people and the hood. People who know me knows that Benzino is the realest nigga they know. This dude ain't even from Detroit. Okay, so he's from some trailer park, but he don't know nothing about the streets. He don't know how it feels about going outside and worrying that somebody might shoot you.

Angie: But he never talks about that in his rhymes Ben...

Benzino: He don't know anything about us. What does he talk about? About his slut of a wife who fucks every dude? About killing his moms? He can say whatever he wants, but nobody will stop him 'cause he's white.

Angie: Nobody stops him? What about the thousands of activists who tried to shut him down?

Benzino: [:: ignoring her ::] This dude is wack. He's stealing hip hop from us, from the streets.

Angie: I'm sorry Ben, but Em is one of the nicest in the game. The kid is nasty.

Benzino: [:: shocked ::] That's 'cause he brainwashed you!

Angie: *laughs* Whatever man

Benzino: Look at this. You obviously on his side. Compare this interview to his interview, and you obviously on his jock. He was talking all that shit about me, and all you did was giggle.

Angie: Ben, I'm not your babysitter dog. You came at him, so he responded. I'm not here to defend you or Em.

Benzino: But throughout that interview, you kept on referring to me as 'that dude'. What the hell was that about Angie?!?

Angie: [:: laughs ::] What are you talking about?

Benzino: Why didn't you call me by my name? Why you callin me 'that dude'? Why are you on his side?!

Angie: You can't be serious Ben. I called you by your name at least 40 times, and you're gettin' mad at the times when i said 'that dude'?

....

Angie: Yes, I went out and bought Em's album because I love him as an artist. I think all of his albums were dope. He's nice.

Benzino: [:: mad as hell ::] Nice?! Him? Compared to who?? I know thousands of street niggaz who's better that cant even get a deal because of this white boy!

Angie: So what about the people who worked with him?

Benzino: SELLOUTS!! But anybody who agrees with this kid has to have other motives, like wanting to be on his album. That's gotta be it.

Angie: [:: laughs ::] What about the idea that you might be wrong?

Benzino: I can't see it, 'cause it is what it is.

Angie: What about Dre?

Benzino: Dre is a great producer, but his street credibility is real shaky right now. I dont even think he fucks with Em anymore.

Angie: Have you ever listened to any of his albums Ben?

Benzino: Hellllll no. I dont listen to that trash. I listen to real hip-hop.. Scarface, Jay, Nas, Mobb Deep. That's street hip hop. This wigger dyed his hair blonde, took a bunch of blonde white kids at the VMAs and he's stealing hip hop. He even said that in his rhymes... 'I use black music to make myself wealthy heeeyy'. You didnt hear that shit? He's extortin' us yo! I can't believe y'all are gettin' brainwashed like this!!

Angie: [:: laughs ::]

Benzino: See, you laughing now. But we'll see who's laughing in 10 years. I cant believe y'all are sleeping on this guy. Y'all laughing now, but soon yall wont have any deals, and this game wont even be in our hands anymore, and we'll be suckers.. .just like Elvis Presly stole Rock 'n' Roll from blacks. When that happens, then we'll see who laughs.

Angie: Ben, don't be mad at me--

Benzino: That's why the Source is a great thing. The Source will be here forever. Even when most niggaz are gone, the Source will still be here.

Angie: Let's not bring the Source in here Ben..

Benzino: Why not? Don't you wanna be in The Source Angie?

Angie: [:: laughs ::] I dunno, The Source doesn't like me, so it doesn't matter to me at all. I don't care.

Benzino: [:: changes topic ::] Bottom line is, these white people are stealing from us! Why is he selling so many units?! Answer me that!

Angie: Because he appeals to alot of people.

Benzino: Appeals to who?!?

Angie: To people like myself, a young Puerto Rican woman.

Benzino: AHHH!!

Angie: Yeah, and to a lot of white people of course.

Benzino: But how come Scarface don't sell that many units?? Or Mobb Deep?

Angie: Ben, you gotta realize that a lot of people appeal with Em, mostly white people. They dont appeal to Scarface. This is a business. If you want your product to sell, you need to appeal to the masses. That's why there's so many party records out there. More people appeal to Em and his struggle than they appeal to the hardcore street things that you talk about. Don't be mad at Em. The way I look at it, if you're gonna try to hate on Em, don't target all your hate on him... hate the whole system. But all you're doing is putting all your attention on one single person.

http://www.daveyd.com/angievsbenzinointerview.html

I thought Eminem's interview was pretty interesting... It gives new insight into the beef. Apart from that, he says that he made "Renegade" for Jay-Z and "The Cross" for Nas & "My Name" for Xzibit all for free...

Benzino sounded like a little whiny bitch who just can't get over the reality of a white rapper ruling the roost in a black music genre... I wanna see him go at Eminem this year like he said he would...
They say the good die young... Proof, YOU'RE NEVER OVER.

What's sad is Benzino had to resort to lying cos the fact Eminem grew up in the streets, hood, ghetto whatever you wanna call it in Detroit in neighborhoods like 7 Mile, Dresden Street on the Eastside this is a 100% fact and been confirmed by everyone that knew Eminem. There is an interview on a DVD with Proof's mother talking about how Em used to live with her and Proof when he was homeless and how she raised him for a while, there is interviews with MTV of Eminem outside the house he grew up in Detroit talking about experiences like how the house used to get shot up and burgled. yes Eminem did live in Warren at times too but he also grew up in the hood in Detroit around 7 & 8 Mile.

What is more pathetic is Benzino bluntly admitted in this interview he has never even heard an Album from Eminem.

There isn't a Youtube clip of it but it was on the Beef DVD which came out about 6 years ago. She also talked about how Em was so poor that he didn't have any shoes and how Proof gave him some of his old sneakers.

What Benzino doesn't understand is not everyone that grew up in the streets is a criminal or drug dealer or Gangsta the majority that live in the hood are not it is just a minority where as the majority are just regular hard working poor people and that is what Eminem was a regular person that grew up in the hood but never was a criminal. the other funny thing is Benzino said Em grew up in a Trailor Park but Em never even grew up in a Trailor he grew up in Section 8 Houses all over Detroit in predominantly black neighborhoods.

I find it funny that he says that he says he's from the hood, and rep the block.
He sounds like someone who's trying to act like a stereotypical gangster. You can't get much more pathetic then that.
