Why Eminem is King

Postby KingDavid » Jan 22nd, '12, 23:10

This thread is going to show examples through lyricism why Em is the greatest Rapper of all time.
Eminem is the greatest rhymer, and visual story teller and has proven it on many of his albums.
Usually you never know what word Eminem is going to use in his rhyme schemes, and it's genius what words he'll use to fit and explain his thoughts.

Brain Damage:
example of both complex rhyming while narrating:
"Then I got up and ran to the janitor's storage booth
Kicked the door hinge loose and ripped out the four inch screws
Grabbed some sharp objects, brooms, and foreign tools
"This is for every time you took my orange juice"

His use of the ryme orange is magnificent.

Marshall Mathers:
You might see me walkin a dead rottweiler dog
with it's head chopped off in the park with a spiked collar
hollerin at him cause the son of a bitch won't quit barkin
(grrrr, ARF ARF)

Collar and holler is a great ryme combination but would be very tricky to place and sound right in a line, the cartoonish dog sound effects go great with the lyricism and bring the flow to life

Square dance:
'Til you fuck around, get an anthrax napkin
Inside a package wrapped in Saran Wrap wrapping
Open the plastic and then you stand back gaspin
Fuckin' assassin, Hijackin' Amtracks, crashin'

great ryming and story telling and flow of syllables

Big Weenie:
My weenie is much bigger than yours is,
mine is like sticking a banana between to oranges
(your is and oranges, lol you can tell ima sucker for the orange lines)

Underground
Dre. I'm down here under the ground Pick me up, broken tibias fibias yeah fix me up
60 sluts, all of them dying from asphyxia (Great word play)
+
Six semen samples, 17 strands of hair Found at the back of a van after the shooting at the vanity fare
(Great storytelling)
+
Mad at me understandable, canable shoot an animal out of a cannon and have him catapult at an adult!

Who the fuck would think he'd ryme understandable with "canable shoot an animal out of a cannon and have him catapult at an adult!"

Untitled:
But you can't touch -- I'm too clairvoyant.
I don't get it man, is there a void
All this weak shit, what am I steroids?
Well bitch I'm back with some shit for that ass
and your trunk, Elephant hemorrhoids

Insane Genious ryming.

I KNOW THERE ARE UNAPPRECIATED LYRICS AND BEST FLOW THREADS, BUT THIS IS A BEST LYRICISM APPRECIATION ONE, AND WHY EMINEM IS KING

thanks!

I agree with most of the examples apart from the Big Weenie one.

When you're putting forward examples to support a statement such as "why Eminem is king", you should avoid anything to do with Big Weenie. There's nothing impressive in that song. I know you liked how he tried to rhyme "oranges" but it was an awful attempt. It's expected seeing as he was heavily on drugs at the time but just compare that to your Brain Damage example. No contest.

You do put forward good examples though, I particularly like the Square Dance one.

One of the best examples you could use would be his verse from Hellbound, particularly these bars:

"Wrap you in rope and plastic, stab you with broken glass
And have you with open gashes strapped to a soakin mattress
Coke and acid, black magic, cloaks and daggers (ahhh!)
Fuck the planet, until it spins on a broken axis
I'm so bananas I'm showin up to your open casket
To fill it full of explosive gasses
And close it back with a lit match in it
While I sit back and just hope it catches"

^ Exceptional.

There's many songs you could use to illustrate his rhyming ability. A few of them would be Till I Collapse, Sing For The Moment, I'm Back, Hello, Music Box etc. Pretty much any song from his first three albums and some from Relapse and Recovery.

Good thread though man, it should spark an interesting discussion. :y:

It looks like he was trying to put out one example from each album, which is why Hellbound isn't on there. But that part of Big Weenie definitely was not the best example of lyricism from Encore.

Ah right, I can't believe I didn't notice that. Thanks for pointing it out. :y: And yeah, I was just throwing some examples out there in case he wanted to analyses some.

The only half decent example from Encore would have been Spend Some Time or Yellow Brick Road. If you were to include bonus tracks, I'd have posted an example from We As Americans.

What about Mosh? It had some nice parts, rhyme-wise.

I know you're trolling but it doesn't hold a candle to Em's Hell Bound verse. period.

Yeah I guess the big weenie example doesn't really breach the excellent tier, and as far as lyricism throughout the album goes it's hard to find material that's better than what I've posted for other songs... So here's so more good examples from recovery!

Seduction
I am also the opposite of wht you are like. You are microcosm of what the fuck I am on the mic

Good use of using mic in a two tenses and clever comparison

I feel like I'm morphin, into something that's so incredible that I'm dwarfin, all competitors.
Better get your girlfriend in check. It's psychological warfare. Endorphins I affect.
your self esteem shatters his dialect.

Great word play while opening up a verse. Also I think shady is acknowledging his drug influence he's had on youth, how kids have poped E because of shady's music and their self esteem shatters as dialect when the trips done

WTP
I shoot the gift like I'm hollerin' "Die Santa!"
Missed the tree and hit Rudolph and two innocent bystanders

good literal interpation of a phrase and sick visual ryming

But he ain't stupid so quit tryin' to run them games on him
He's immune to Cupid, why you tryin' to put your claims on him?

great sylable ryming well keeping the content in context

Cinderella man
Mediocrity can no longer be allowed to fly,
So say bye,
To the old H.I.
To the new, Que Sera
Consider it his last hurrah
Coup de grace

the way he says "To the old H.I. to the new Que Sera" in his tone you can really hear the new spring to his step when he says que sera, and in the line to the old H.I his words seem old and dragged on like many of his drugged up verses

You're never over

Bitch I do this all for the sport only
But I want it all I'm not just talkin awards homie
And the balls in my court and it's lonely
On top of the world when you're the only
One with the balls in your shorts
To leave their jaws on the floors with no re
Morse

amazing lyrcisim

That's all folks!

Re: Why Eminem is King

Postby Vinyl » Jan 23rd, '12, 07:01

Hey all I'm new here. I pretty much touched on this in the thread about Em having different kinds of fans but I'll just kind of summarize it here.

Eminem is the greatest, in my opinion for 1.) His ability to connect with his listeners. 2.) His versatility 3.) His technical skill

Very few rappers have a solid combination of the above traits. You may have someone who is very lyrical/technically inclined but can't write an emotional, relatable song to save their life.

You may have emcees that have simple rhyme structure but have a way with expressing feelings through their songs.

A lot of emcees are usually one or the other. Em does both without sacrificing either. He can be lyrical while at the same time getting his idea across, and connecting with the listener.

His versatility is also incredible. We may all prefer one style over another. But he's pretty much got you covered in whatever kind of song you're looking for. Raw lyricism, songs about relationships, overcoming obstacles, funny songs, political songs, dark/horrorcore songs.

To think that one man made: My Name is, 25 To Life, Stay Wide Awake, Lose Yourself, Kill You, Mosh, Love The Way You Life, Till I Collapse is simply remarkable. I have yet to find another artist, especially in hip hop, with that kind of range.

His material is so diverse, and his lyrics are put together so well that he's believable. When he dresses up in funny costumes or uses weird accents we laugh at him. When he makes detailed songs about serial killing we get the chills. When he makes diss records we take him serious.

If nothing else, it shows that he's human. Whereas most rappers are gangster drug dealers or rich playboys 24/7, we see different sides of Eminem. He's not an angry murderer 24/7, sometimes he wants to be silly. Sometimes he's vulnerable and displays brutal honesty in his lyrics. Sometimes he just wants to exercise his lyrical muscle. We always get a different kind of Eminem as opposed to the same Eminem every album just with different beats.

So yes, there may be some artists you may try to compare to him just based on lyrical skill alone. But the whole package? Very few, if any come to mind.

There's a few mainstream rappers who rap about this, but to say "most rappers" is certainty an over-exaggeration.

The stans here I swear :facepalm

How can you just flat out call one rapper the greatest period? That's such an ignorant thing to say. Like you've heard every rapper :facepalm
