Black people and Eminem

Hey guys, hows it going?

Sometimes i read blogs and tweets and whatever, and i noticed that there are many black people who are obsessed with Jay and Beyonce, its upto a point that they even worship them, just because they are powerful and represent the black community. I was just wondering if in general, black people take pride in Eminem as well in the same way because Em represents hip-hop and and he has transcended it into popular culture so now hip hop is even bigger and more appreciated. I wonder if many of them realize it.
I dont mean to sound racist when i use the word black, just to be clear, i can say african-american instead if thats preferred.

It maybe stereotypical but they are more prone to beats and similies than to pure content

All of my black friends who I know listen to rap respect, but only a few of them actually listen to him on at least a somewhat regular basis. I lived with 2 black guys at college over the span of 3 years, and both respected em a lot. The one who didnt listen to em regularly would point out when em killed a track or verse, and the other kid did listen to some em and thought he was dope.

I think a lot of it has to do with color when it comes to who you like more, as most of ems hardcore fans are white, and I say that only from experience and the people I know and who they like.

But yes, I think em is highly respected by all fans of hip-hop, just like jay is and a handful of others.

^I agree. Most black people I know say they like a few songs and acknowledge that he is indeed a really good rapper but that's about it. I think in general people still gravitate towards what they can identify with be it skin color, background, culture etc.

I think his relationship to the black audience in general is represented by the fact that he doesn't get played much on urban radio or get much recognition at urban award shows. Look at the crowds at his concerts and you won't see many, if any, black faces.

Having said that, I'm sure he has hardcore fans of all races. He's universal.

Yea, same. I'm black and I grew up on EM and my white friend is my only friend who is just as much as a fan as I am. But my black friends are so-so, they neither like nor dislike him.

Anyone who understands rap will understand Em is an incredible rapper. Black or white, if they don't understand lyricsm, flow, or all the little details that go into it, they won't like him. All of the black rappers out today know that Em is probably the best rapper to ever do it. I've heard many of them say that. Everyone knows Em will kill anyone on a track.
