Eminem: Old Vs. New

Postby ImInfinite » Jan 24th, '12, 00:36

Infinite (personal favorite), Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show, Encore, Relapse and............Recovery. wtf. He started off as an underground white rapper, wearing Jordans with baggy jeans and a sweatshirt. This escalated to the hilarious alter-ego slim shady came out with a sort of dark and violent rap with a comedic twist. Then comes Marshall rapper about hard times and his love for his daughter. Then comes Mr. Skinny jeans and designer shirt with a g-shock around his wrist and "rapping" with Rihanna and lil Wayne. I know most of you are probably like "he grew up, deal with it" fuck you. I want the old eminem back, not this dancing prancing singing with the mainstream pop assholes. After Relapse, I was so excited and looking forward to Recovery and then, I saw something that would change my views on Eminem forever. FT. RIHANNA. I thought it was a joke. I don't know anymore I just feel like he completely sold out, I hate to say it, but when he sobered off drugs, he should've dropped music as well. What do you guys think?

HAHAHAHA OMG

You guys are HILARIOUS!

Eminem is mainstream, he's always been mainstream, ever since he came out with The Slim Shady LP.

Don't dismiss an album just because it has Rihanna, who is in fact a nice singer.

In fact, "Love the Way You Lie" is one of my favorite Eminem songs. I mean, have you listened to the lyrics? It's about abusive relationships. Not some lovey-dovey Taylor Swift shit.

Oh, welcome to the forum btw. :y:

If you don't like the new eminem then stop listening to him. The Real Slim Shady, Without Me, My Name Is - All mainstream songs. Just a lot better then what he has now. They were the Not Afraid of 1999-2002
Music Box
Relapse.

I didn't say being mainstream is bad,it"s just I have no respect for singers like Rihanna and rappers like lil Wayne. I'm just saying I miss the old eminem during d12. I haven't even heard a song on recovery other than love the way you lie and not afraid, which I hated. Eminem has been mainstream hip hop for a while but now I'm surprised he didn't do anything with lady gaga and beyonce yet. He's in for the money and nothing else.

How the fuck can you judge the album based on hearing two singles off the album?? First off, Rihanna has talent. And whether she uses it in her songs or not is another topic entirely, but her vocals on the song were good. Eminem's always been mainstream. Hence wanting female vocalists such as Dido or Dina Rae. That also explains why he's in it for the money: easily doing the HTS album not entirely for sales. Because you don't think Em knew that HTS wouldn't even come close to sales of Recovery? Yes, obviously, he did it partially for money just to keep himself stable (as if he doesn't have enough already) but really, he did it because he loves the art and wanted to do something to settle the fan's waiting and have fun with one of his best friends. People like you annoy me. Y'know why? Because you're the one who's mainstream for merely listening to Recovery's singles (in fact, 2 of them instead of the 4) instead of the album in its entirely. Plus, how are the subject matters of those two anything similar to mainstream ideas in pop singles? Let's look at some big singles from this past year: How To Love (Lil Wayne) Headlines (Drake), Ass (Big Sean), etc. Those all follow really cliche and frankly stupid topics that any other artist can manipulate, and it doesn't feature anything in rhyming intricacy. Tell me, how many rappers have you heard recently speak about overcoming their drugs problems and finally being sober? Or about domestic abuse? Not to mention despite their poppy hooks and appealing to teenage girls, the lyricism itself in the song is fantastic. "I'mma be what I set out to be, without a doubt undoubtedly, and all those who look down on me I'm tearing down your balcony." That's incredible rhyming, tbh, and is on par with his early works.

While obviously his subject matter should change over a period of what, 15+ years? He's always been mainstream. If you hadn't been so ignorant and careless you'd know that teenage girls were all over him during the MMLP and EMS era. All that's changed now is that the teenage girl audience now only listens to the singles off the album and listen to other music which I don't appreciate much such as Katy Perry, Kesha, etc. Regardless, I'm going off topic and I'm just ranting. And there's no point in giving attention to someone as moronic, careless, and ignorant an individual as you. Gratz on making the worst first post in TR history bro, come again soon. :b:

Bunch of fucking cunts. It's his opinion. Deal with it instead of getting your fucking knickers in a twist.

His point about Lil-Wayne is a good one. Pin-point the time when Em started making collaborations with rappers who had a strong following amongst little kids. And when I say making collabs: I mean ones which have a heavy pop influence. The collabs on SSLP and MMLP were, outside of the label, underground ones. The Eminem Show was a platform for Shady records.
Actually dig into the initial post, and some fair points are made.

Voltaire: 'I detest what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it'. I honestly feel that that most of you wiggas must have a black face from brown-nosing Em so much. Ooh the irony. :facepalm2
