If he makes a funny single, it will do less than "Without Me". At this point, seeing as Em is 39, I think the best way to approach the singles is to make deep or meaningful songs and do whatever the fuck he wants with the rest of the album.
Just the public image of him doing a funny song wouldn't be as big as him addressing a real issue, people wouldn't care as much if he made a funny song.
However, if it's stirs big controversy then i'd encourage Em to go for it. It's hard to make a huge controversial song these days.
