Do we judge collaborations too lightly?

Postby Blu » Nov 18th, '12, 14:27

This is something that I always see on this site. "Oh, it was just a verse on _____'s track, therefore it doesn't really matter, it's not a sign of what Em has to offer to us."

I mean, really? Does everybody only apply this rule to Em?

Say you were pretty active in the Creative Writing section, and someone asked you to write a verse for their piece. So, you did. You spent hours crafting your precious, well-written, Grammy award winning verse.

But let's say you did the opposite. You came out with shit. You literally hopped on your desk and let out a nice, slimy turd on that fine piece of paper you were intending to write your verse on. And then you submit it to your friend, and - just to embarrass you - decides to post it up as a "feature" on that written. Then all of a sudden people start giving you shit, they're like, "HEY MAN WAS UP WITH THAT VERSE?!"

Then you're like, "WHOA WHOA WHOA WHY YOU GIVIN ME SHIT DUDE? EM RELEASES SHIT FEATURES DAILY BUT YET YOU ALL EXCUSE IT!"

Then everyone's like, "HEY MAN EM'S DA GAWD"

Then Officer Dipshit walks in and is like, "SIR I'M GONNA NEED YOU TO APOLOGIZE OR I'M GIVING YOU THE PERM-BAN"

Then the asshole that decided to include your verse in the feature is like, "I THOUGHT IT WAS REALLY GUUUD :b:"

Then Officer Dipshit quietly edits your post and changes your verse to a finely crafted, multeez galore, Grammy award winning verse.

Then everyone starts praising you.

Then Officer Dipshit goes back to the Dipshit section and starts having a circle jerk with the Sheriff Dipshit and Deputy Dipshits.

Fuck Idk where I'm going with this but we need to discuss this.

On the flip-side, do you judge them too harshly?

You seem incredibly angry for no reason though. If our opinions on Eminem or anyone else bothers you then you should just ignore them. You're a pretty bad offender of this whenever it applies to someone like Kanye or Jay, so I don't see what point you're trying to make? Don't get me wrong I defend Em quite a bit but you can't sit behind your computer screen and act like you're a saint among sinners. You start shit alot and you get shit...I would think that would be obvious but apparently it isn't.

I've pointed this out a lot of times. It's like like why be sub par when you're very capable of delivering the business irrespective of whose song you're on? It's not like he'll run out bars/content/ideas. why litter your discography with shitty, forgettable material when, in essence, you can avoid it - especially now where he's 'back in form' in most people's eyes? Em's actively tarnishing that GOAT status as far as I'm concerned.
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

DAMN, PEOPLE. LOOK:
Latest Eminem collaborations were: Throw it up- verse was shitty as fuck. Same with HCTW, Richard, Numb etc. There is nothing in between, and you can't fool yourselves. I don't know what the fuck has happened to Em, but I say it openly: He's my favourite aritst, and there is nothing bad about being mad at the shitty music he is doing lately, cuz IT IS shitty as fuck in comparison to his many, even less-anticipated tracks. I'm still a fan though and I really hope that those rumours about comeback to his 01-03 style are true.

There is nothing else to say in this subject, lol.

To be fair most of these verses that you all hate are on singer's albums and not rapper's. HCTW and Richard are awesome. Numb was okay as an entertainment verse but was on an awful pop singer's song. Short ass verse too. Let's not forget he had a good verse on Our House. Then there's Throw It Up which was below average like bigray said. We still got two more verse to go as well so let's put our foots on the break before we make any conclusions.

Just to show you:
this is the real non-rap feat rap collabo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj6LLXtZPRY
and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r3dbKzXEJ4- I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK THIS IS. And I want to erase it from my memory.

@edit
True. His verse on Our House was good. But nothing more than good.

Lets look at his features post-Recovery, excluding H:TS.

All She Wrote - 7/10. double time flow is addictive in the second verse.
Roman's Revenge - 4/10. Worst beat of all time, 2 average verses.
Celebrity - 5/10. Too loud, average verse.
Hello Good Morning - 5/10 not meant to be released, so not too important. Average.
LTWYL II - 8/10. Great verse.
I Need A Doctor 7/10. 2 powerful verses.
Throw It Up 6/10. Nice flow, bit daft.
Richard 6/10. Nice flow at times, nothing much more. Good hook.
Throw That 6/10. Bit of a pointless hook. Could surely have chosen a better song to jump on the album.
Asylum - 7/10. Nice hook.
Our House - 7/10. I was disappointed in the flow, but good lyrics.
Here Comes The Weekend - 8/10. Oddly, one of my favourite recent features. Great rhyming.
Numb - 2/10. First half ruins a decent (at a push) second half. What was he thinking.

I've enjoyed them all because it's new Em but I think these are fair scores if you take off the Em-tinted specs.

So I think you can say that we do take these features a bit lightly and brush them off. That's a lot of songs stretching over 2 years. I think that's a pretty poor verdict.

Fair enough, but isn't that a Recovery song that he gave to Banks at a later date?

If anything, that's more evidence that he has taken a dip since Recovery.

assuming we're only rating eminem's verses:

All She Wrote - I'll admit his flow is nice here, but lyrically it's horrendous. What's good about this? The a&w line? 2/10

Where I'm At - Everything was great until he said "Why do I hear the sound of toilets flushing, some shit is going down". Everything else is good though other than his forced flow at the end. 7/10

Romans Revenge - Oh look, two pees and a tripod! And he'll piss a happy meal off? lol ok 3/10

Celebrity - lol 5/10

Hello Good Mourning - he probably recorded this to waste 5 minutes one mourning and was hungry or some shit

LTWYL II - Actually a pretty good verse, starts to drag a bit but overall this was good 7/10

I Need a Doctor - This was good too 7/10

Throw It Up - Diarrhea diary m8s 2/10

Richard - This is better than Throw It Up, but it isn't good. It's not funny. More already run into the ground food/white trash references, average lyrics. Good flow in the middle 4/10

Our House - This isn't good. His flow is awkward, and it isn't a step up from Richard lyrically. Call me a wigger like Rene Zell? Raise havoc like a stay at home dad? Go taz and spaz on these hoe bags Em. Points for the hook or whatever though 5/10

Here Comes The Weekend - Lol I can't believe this is actually better than Our House. Surprisingly he doesn't say anything embarrassing that I can remember. 6.5/10

Numb - butt police 2/10

Most of BME sucked too.

I think you are letting the odd line ruin some of those.

Nah man, BME was amazing. Only song / verse I didn't enjoy was the Bruno Mars one and The Reunion. I thought all the rest were on point. Fast Lane and Above the Law were amazing.

Which makes me think when it's his name on the CD he does tend to do better.
