He always kinda has but, back in his SSLP days he did it legendary... well, all through his prime really, and it sounded seamless, I know it's cliche to say he 'rhymes words that shouldn't rhyme' by now, but I do definitely think he did it in a big way with rhyming the sounds of words, it's not that he rhymed the words, it's that he produced a similar sound so you felt like it was a rhyme...
In more recent times (apart from Relapse, which is magical), it's sounded more like he literally BENDS the word to try and force it to rhyme, less natural, like on "You're Never Over". But lately...
I noticed in his "My Life" verse he does it a bit... I mean, in a way his rhymes seem simpler these days in the sense that he rhymes a slew of small and easy words in a row, like little bursts a lot, but his "He's bugging again, he's straight thuggin', fuck who he's o'fffennding"...
When you say "thugging" and "offending" out loud, they sound nothing alike. I know it's relatively easy in the sense he's just emphasizing the 'ing' and that sound but, sounds pretty badass. I like those kind of layered bursts of crafted flow where he repeats similar schemes in a row.
Also on "C'Mon Let Me Ride", the 'brooadd killer' / 'gooood zilla', not much of a stretch but it just sounds nice and natural, and a little left-field. Sounds to me like he's crafting a real spark with his phrasing again. Just needs to total out those occasionally awful puns lmao.
Wtf am I rambling about this for? I've been awake way too long now. Vintage Base ©
