Em's voice still has some life left

Postby Jimmy Conway » Feb 1st, '13, 20:04

A lot of people have said that Em's voice is shot. For one, he's a rapper. You don't need to have a Chris Cornell vocal rang to rap. Secondly he is still pretty young, I mean Michael Jackson still sounded decent at 50 and on enough sleeping medication to kill a horse.

I was listening to Hell Breaks loose. One of my least favorite Relapse songs.

Now I know you're feelin discouraged but homie just mark my words
I'm mur-durin the flow, liquid courage I'm fin' to blow
As soon as we hit the do' power surges head to toe
I'm sure to push it as far as words are meant to go

The waver he puts in there is a good example of the control he still has. Is it prime Em, not really. Is it still above average?yes

I thought his voice has sounded bad for the most part since Relapse, but that isn't because of vocal deterioration, it's just a style that isn't working.

I expect a crisp, smooth, awesome sound on his new album.

If you want a soft male voice that'll get you hard with sensual pleasure? go listen to some R&B You little faggot.

I'm sorry to be so bold but, I believe it's a perfectly justifiable reply.

These still sound like his natural TES voice to me.. And The Reunion too.

If his voice was going to fall apart it would have during his drug days sitting around in his house for a couple years.

I would have chosen a newer song, but they are all too shitty to listen to for me to make a point.

Uh...his voice sounds fine on Numb, but the flow and lyrics make my nose bleed.

His voice sounds VERY good on C'mon Let Me Ride. It's the best he's sounded in a very long time. Actually, the issue hasn't been with his voice. I think on better songs, with longer verses, he wouldn't be judged so harshly now.

How dare you use logic. Get the fuck out, this is TRShday, there's no room for intelligent discussion.

Yeah. Really now, Here Comes The Weekend - not corny, Richard is debatable I guess but I think it's dope, Numb has NO "embarrassing" lines except the butt police line which isn't even that bad. Any other rapper says that no one would give a shit because it's just a line. A random thought of his. Every other lyric wasn't really bad but his flow really distracted it. And C'mon Let Me Ride, his verse is great. A lot of people I know think his verse is awesome but the song sucks. I think he's heading in the right direction, he REALLY sticks to the concept with his last verses (CLMR and Numb).

I think Richard is my favorite actually.

Well I just say Richard because people criticize the (awesome) fast food references and abusing hoes. I personally love the verse, it's great. It really reminds me of The Reunion which I also love.

I feel like when I am listening to Eminem I am watching a baseball player that is trying to come out of a slump. Commentators will be like, he looks powerful, his mechanics look good, but he hasn't found his timing.

RIchard is a good example. Good chorus

"You get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
I can tell at first glance you’re a ho
Cause your pants are so tight
When you dance with O. Trice, your implants explode
So cold to dykes, the chance is snow in San Francisco"

That part is good. But the rest of his verse is meh. I feel like he's almost there, but keeps missing the ball.

I do agree that that part of the verse REALLY stands out and sounds like the type of punchlines he used to do.

Thats ur problem if ur waiting for EM to get out of a slump, when I am anticipating a new song from him...see the difference?

Yeah, you're the kid at the stadium thrilled to see your favorite player, no matter what.

I'm the guy there screaming because he's 0-4 with 4 strike outs.

Let's debate.

Here Comes The Weekend - how is that verse a bad one? It's not. The song, terrible, yeah. But Em's verse is dope. Great references and reminds me of the Cypher a little bit. The Cypher is clearly still better though

Richard - like I said I can understand why people don't like it but I think it's dope. Not because it's Eminem, because it's a good verse. I have friends who I have made listen to Richard, unbiased friends who aren't his biggest fans but are fans and call it a good one. The content REALLY isn't too far off from what he used to rap about. He seems to be telling stories in these verses and that's what he especially does on this song.

Numb - the lyrics aren't embarrassing. As I keep on saying, take out the butt police line and you got nothing bad. He seems very descriptive and everything. It's just the song is terrible, the verse is TOO short for how fast he raps it, and one line and apparently that makes the lyrics themselves bad...they're really not. People WANT him to rap about this shit, rap about being Shady again and I bet he wants to be Shady again as well, and when he does everyone bitches. Shady used to be drug references, abusing hoes, and dissing rappers/celebrities with metaphors and shit. So what's exactly wrong with his Numb verse? Nothing, except that it's too fucking short.

C'mon Let Me Ride - this shit is vintage Eminem/Shady so I don't see what the problem with it is. Yeah it's on a shitty pop song but this verse is fucking great. Absolutely NO embarrassing lines whatsoever, amazing voice and flow, and good lyrics considering the content of the song. I really would like to hear what's bad about this verse.

So there you go. That's my argument. :coffee:
