The Young Rapper: Kendrick Lamar
Why We Want To See Him In The Studio With Em: Without question, the TDE rapper is our favorite MC of the past year. And we're definitely not alone in that thinking. Just about every major music publication had Kendrick's debut good kid, m.A.A.d city at the top or near the top of their "Best of…" album lists in 2012. When you combine that with the fact that Kendrick has called Eminem a "genius" in the past and talked about how much he'd like to work with him, this is probably the young rapper that we want to see Em in the studio with the most. These two have the potential to put together an instant classic.
The Young Rapper: Meek Mill
Why We Want To See Him In The Studio With Em: Meek Mill cut his teeth as a battle rapper in Philly. Likewise, Eminem first made a name battling other rappers in Detroit. If you like punchlines, metaphors, and disgustingly sick wordplay, then this would be the track for you. Also, we don't imagine that either of these two would want to get outdone by the other on a track. So it would have the potential to be one of the most competitive songs in recent history.
The Young Rapper: Mac Miller
Why We Want To See Him In The Studio With Em: Like all white rappers who make any noise in the music industry, Mac Miller gets asked about and compared to Eminem all the time. So why not get these two into the same room and let them address those comparisons? Or, better yet, get them into the same room to do a song together to show that they're not the same artist, despite their skin color. This would be a great opportunity for both artists to show what they're all about and separate themselves.
The Young Rapper: Danny Brown
Why We Want To See Him In The Studio With Em: One of the reasons we were so excited to see Eminem in the studio with Big Sean is that they're obviously both from Detroit. And it's always nice to see a huge superstar like Em putting in work with a guy from his hometown, regardless of how "big" he is in the industry. Right now, Danny Brown doesn't have the mainstream appeal that Big Sean has. But he's from the D, and he's put out a lot of solid music, including his at-times hilarious 2011 album, XXX. With that in mind, he deserves a shot to shine alongside someone like Em. And we think Danny and Slim Shady would complement each other quite well on a song. Put on for your city, fellas.
The Young Rapper: Tyler, The Creator
Why We Want To See Him In The Studio With Em: The Odd Future leader is a BIG fan of Eminem. A couple years ago, he raved about how much he loved Relapse. So we could see him and Em coming up with something pretty crazy. We don't care for Relapse Em as much as we do, say, Marshall Mathers LP Em, so hopefully these two wouldn't overdo the Relapse style of rapping (see: lots and lots of bloody, violent rhymes with drug references for days). But even if they did, it'd be special to see Slim Shady and Tyler on a track together. For what it's worth, it would earn Em plenty of accolades from the loyal OF followers.
The Young Rapper: Earl Sweatshirt
Why We Want To See Him In The Studio With Em: Tyler isn't the only Odd Future member we'd like to see in the booth with Eminem. We also wouldn't mind seeing his fellow OF member Earl Sweatshirt in there as well. Although Tyler obviously has way more charisma than Earl and, therefore, would probably create a better overall song with Em, Earl could likely hang with Em when it came to lyrics. In fact, rhyming with Em would show the world just how lyrical Earl can get, which would be a great thing for his future.
The Young Rapper: Macklemore
Why We Want To See Him In The Studio With Em: We realize we're stretching the definition of the word "young" here (Macklemore is actually 29). But we still want to hear him rhyme alongside Em. If you've spent any time listening to Macklemore's The Heist, you know that he likes to use a lot of concepts on his songs. He's not just rhyming to rhyme; there are points he's trying to make. It's something that Eminem does a lot as well. So if given the opportunity, we think these two could put together a really well thought out and meaningful song. We would also give Macklemore a TON of bonus points if he could somehow convince Em to jump on a remix for "Same Love." How crazy would that be?
The Young Rapper: Chance the Rapper
Why We Want To See Him In The Studio With Em: Over the past month or so, Chance's profile has grown. As it has, some have compared his style to a mixture of Kanye West and Eminem's early music. Whether you agree with that assessment or not, it's pretty clear that the Chicago MC has a bright future ahead, and he's got rhymes for days. He would more than hold his own on a track with Em.
The Young Rapper: Machine Gun Kelly
Why We Want To See Him In The Studio With Em: He's a wild boy! And so is Slim Shady. So why not get into the studio and create a wild song together? As recently as last week, MGK covered Em's "Lose Yourself" during a show in Detroit, so it's clear that he wouldn't mind putting in some work with Em.
The Young Rapper: J. Cole
Why We Want To See Him In The Studio With Em: In 2010, Cole admitted that he molded his early rapping style by jacking flows from Canibus and Eminem. He's obviously grown a lot since then—both as an artist and a person—so he's got his own style now. And we think that style would fit perfectly with Em's. Plus, both of these guys are producers and produce a lot of their own stuff when they can, so maybe they could work on the beat for the song together. Hell, maybe that would inspire them to record an EP or even a whole album. Let's start with a song and see where it goes from there. Deal?
