My 3 concerns about MMLP2

Postby 4Corners » Oct 17th, '13, 22:26

I don't want people to get it twisted, I like Rap God. It's pretty good.

But like usual, I think stans overrated it at first. It's good, his wordplay is out of this world and the flow on certain parts is incredible. But again, I feel Em now suffers from this need to be the rappingest rapper who ever rappity rapped on a mic. It's dope, sure there's some lines that are whack though, but the majority of the song is pretty good. The beat.....ehhh it's still just ehhhh for me. The intro with the bass and simple beat is dope, should have kept it like that IMO.

But the flow is much like Throw It Up, A Kiss, Our House, which are fine and have some solid stuff, but I honestly feel this is how a majority of the album will sound, and that's not a good thing. Too many pauses during the flow at times for my liking. I know Em wants to be complex, but he doesn't need to go all over the fucking place lyrically all the time to be complex.

So in general, my concerns are this.....

1. Em feels he has to be the greatest rapper who ever rapped in the history if the world, and is overly complex now at times to a fault. He can be dope without being over the top, and he can be dope and lyrical at this point in his career while having a more toned down approach (see Ridaz and On Fire).

2. Too much fast fast fast, pause, fast, pause style of spitting. Too much choppiness in his flow.

3. Not having anything else to rap about other than his legacy.

Don't hate. I think Berzerk and Survival are ehhh alright, 3/5 songs, and Rap God after taking it in is more lie a 3.5/5 for me. But these are my fears for the album right now.

Awwww fuck up. Why does everyone knit pick over his songs no ones ever happy there is always a couple of pricks that are never satisfied. He's just dropped one of his best lyrical songs of recent time with a crazy ass flow that we haven't heard before and your crying about it? What do you want him to do? Fans like you makes me wish that eminem would stop making music because he just can't win

I'm really only afraid that his rhymes will be forced like Recovery's were. Sometimes I think he tries a little to hard instead of just letting his lines flow naturally. The last time I thought Em did a great job at this was on The Warning. We need songs like that on MMLP2 and it will be a classic.

I'm sorry, I'm stating my opinion. Rap God is dope, but if the albums flow is like that on the whole thing, it's going to be too over the top. He's too complex to a fault at times now.

That was a big concern for me also, but Rap God has made me come around. His style recently has put me off, but it works well in Rap God. I agree, Survival and Berzerk are meh. Hopefully the rest of the album is on the qualiy of Rap God or better. But look, realisticaly Em is not touching his classics. In al likihood he'll never make anything as good as MMLP, or Lose Yourself, etc - just like Jay, Nas, and every other apper isn't goign to be as good as their peak years. But one thing he is doing is taking it in new directions. Instead of retreading on what he's already done, he's trying to evolve, and that's a good thing and something to be excited for in and of itself. You might not like his new style but at least it's different - and I think it's something you just gotta learn to accept instead of nitpick at and wishing he rapped like he used to.

The 3 songs we have already are completely different from each other. I don't see him using that same flow in every song. His flow isn't choppy, his flow is great and he's switching it up constantly.

I like the rappity rap rap fast pace on certain songs. If it's just Rap God, and one more or two, it'll be cool. But he doesn't need to be overly complex to convey his point or to be the best rapper alive. And I loved his flow on Ridaz and On Fire. Toned down, a little more simple here and there, but still had incredible wordplay and was great.

Rap God still suffers at times with too many pauses here and there though. I hope you're right man.

It's just a concern now.
