MMLP2 Debuts At #1 With 793K

It's official: Eminem's new album, "The Marshall Mathers LP 2," debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with the second-largest sales week of the year.

The set, which was released on Tuesday, Nov. 5, sold a bigger-than-expected 792,000 copies in the week ending Nov. 10, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Last week, industry sources had forecast the set to bow with around 750,000.

It was actually 500k at the start of the week but gradually went up to 900k.

Some facts to take into account:

- Interscope predicted 700-750k several weeks ago when there wasn't nearly as much hype as now
- Rap God created a healthy buzz among hip hop fans and the mainstream
- The Monster is taking off just in time to have an effect on first week sales
- Em always outdoes official predictions (Recovery was 500k I think)

This will do 900k+ easily. A milli is quite likely i'd say. HDD predicting "well north" of 700k pretty much means they have no clue what to expect and it's up in the air. I'm sure word of mouth will spread like it always does when Em releases an album.
