Just read it.
Um, duh?
Is this news to anybody?
It's fucking obvious, fam.
Also, the one thing I don't agree with; how is Encore mediocre if it achieved what is (allegedly) set out to do?
He sets out to make an album that'll kill his fame, he succeeds brilliantly(as evidenced by the sharp decline in record sales and the derision with which Encore is spoken of), and somehow the album sucks?
I don't understand how people still think this, tbh.

that was an um.. time consuming read but worth it because I enjoy reading anyone's thoughts on em.
i believe that, just like survival and the monster feel like what recovery should have been, berzerk gives a good idea of what encore was meant to be like - over the top, intentionally awful lyrics but masterfully structured, musically untouchable and obviously a gag.
substance problems very likely interfered with his ability to think clearly enough to make such a tongue in cheek record work in 2004

Just because it might have been intentionally bad does not mean the album doesnt suck. First of all i doubt he truly intended it to suck. Art isnt judged on its intentions, or what it sought to present, its judged on its own merits and the quality its put forth. Encore at a musical level is sub par for Eminem in every category except for the production. Even if it was trying to suck, that wouldnt change the fact that it does suck, and its a suckish album regardless if that was the intention or not. It still sucks to listen too lol. I dont really understand how the album intentionally sucking somehow validates the work and makes it not a bad album. I genuinely want to know your perspective because I dont understand it lol.

@GanjaKush... , I hadnt ever really thought about it like that. I dont necessarily agree with all of it, but it was still an interesting read. :y:

That's the thing, I've always said the album ranges between a 7.5-8/10, depending on my mood.
It doesn't suck, not by any definition of the word.
Encore at a musical level is sub par for Eminem in every category except for the production.

Okay, I'll bite.
In what categories is it sub-par?

His lyricism and delivery are shit throughout the album, the content is also shitty. It's almost a parody of an Eminem album.

The only good things are probably some of the beats (bar My 1st Single, which is cancer) and some of the hooks.

This pretty much. His lyrics are extremely sub par in comparison to any of his other solo works. I dont really understand how you hear it differently.

The wordplay the rhyming, the creativity is nowhere near anything else hes put out.

Um... Really?
Lemme play the album again.
It's on shuffle.
1. Crazy In Love
Nope, delivery on point.
Lyrics on point.
Content on point.
2. Never Enough.
Delivery, lyrics and content are flawless
3. Love You More.
Everything here is flawless.
It isn't even arguable.
4. MockingBird
Do have a problem with the content in this song? I sure as fuck don't.
Delivery is good.
5. Evil Deeds
Hate this song.
Everything about it.
6. Spend Some Time
Nope, no wack content or delivery here, sir.
At least, none by Em, I don't like Obie.
7. Yellow Brick Road
Song is flawless.
8. Puke
Delivery: check
Content: check
Lyrics: check
(what's the difference between lyrics and content anyway?)
9. Encore
...spoke to a generation of angry teenagers whom if it wasn't for rap to bridge the gap maybe raised to be racists...broke down barriers of language and races...
No sir, no wack lyrics, content or delivery here, sir.
50 Cent's kinda sucks though.
10. Ricky Tic Toc
Dope lyrics and delivery
11. Big Weenie
Heh.
Okay, content is a bit "ehh".
12. Mosh
Don't like the song, won't say the content or lyrics are wack, though, would you?
13. Rainman
Love it.
Nothing wrong with his delivery, there is exactly zero content, though.
14. One Shot Two Shot
Fuckin hate this shit.
15. Like Toy Soldiers
Content wack, really?!
Delivery wack, really?!
FOH.
16. Ass Like That
Wonderful content, expresses sentiment that I can get behind.
In Summary: is there another album named Encore that I don't know about, or did someone make up new meaning for "wack lyrics, delivery and content" when I was asleep?
When last did you listen to the album, btw?

Im a lot less on board with the content being wack, but the flows and the lyrics come off to me as extremely sub par for him. The lyrics for puke are mediocre, you really think theyre on point? he pretty much did that song again except way better on MMLP2 with So Much Better. He sounds asleep blending his words together on spend some time. Crazy in love is far from flawless but i do like that song. I dont think theres anything inherently wrong with yellow brick road, but the lyrics arent really all that stellar to begin with. The flow on Ricky Ticky Toc sounds so lackadaisical, you dont thinks so? hes like stretching out the words and syllables to fit a flow that sounds extremely off putting. He just sounds so lifeless, not as sharp and not as witty as any of his other albums. Theres no vigor in him on this album. Dont get me wrong I do enjoy some of the songs. Like Toy Soldiers, Mosh, Never Enough, Love you More.. Encore being ones that stand out to me. But theres too much nonsense on this album to ignore.

Assuming youre still talking to me lol, I listened to it a few weeks ago to give it a fair shake again, and I just didnt find if very exciting or all that great, with the exception of a few bright spots. Its easily his weakest effort and a 5/10 album to me. Listening to this in comparison to any of his other studio releases you really think it deserves that high of praise? The lyricism does not touch any of those albums, nor does the flow or delivery. I dont really think anyone is going to be convinced though lol.

@TheBoss123
If we are to compare SSLP to MMLP 2 or Relapse based on density of lyrics, it'd come off as relatively mediocre, does that make it a sub-par effort?
Nah.
I think the reason Encore is so universally hated is that people feel Eminem's needs to have a consensus shitty album.
I just saw Encore being described as the worst album ever made, dude who said it was serious, too.
Dude prolly hasn't even heard the album.
Opinions like that show that the hate for Encore has gone waay beyond irrational, and is frankly, kind of disturbing, and it's because the Encore hate just keeps being repeated ad nauseam until it starts to become accepted as gospel.
It's stupid, really.
Hopsinshadie, is that you?
