What now, Marshall?

Postby HarryUltra » Sep 9th, '14, 15:32

I wanna start a really serious discussion here. (Excuse me for my spelling mistakes, english is not my native language).

So here's "Guts over fear". Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the start of something new in the history of Shady. I mean MC's not often shows their "soft" side, or wathever. Em called himself a king, a god, and now he revealed that he still struggling with shit like how to bring something new. It's so honest, and I like it, it just makes him more "human" to me. But he says in GOF that he don't wanna make another We Made You, and that line goes deeper than I first thought. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to me, it means he wanna make songs with deeper meaning, he's done with the funny "first singles" (Not Afraid, and Berzerk proves that aswell). In my opinion We Made You is a perfect song, it didn't bring the worldpeace or anything, but after I drank some liqour with my friends, it was one hell of a song to listen to. (My neighbours were happy, or maybe not :p )

But whats more important is the line "And it just breaks my heart to look at all the pain I caused". Being offensive was a part of Eminem's daily job, does that mean he will stop with that aswell? Can you picture an Eminem album without punchlines about Michael J. Fox, or rapping about violence and shit like that? Would you like that?

For me, I'd be completely satisfied with an Eminem album with full of songs like GOF, When I'm gone, or Lose yourself, but could he still keep the attention he gets now?

And maybe it's just me, but sometimes I feel like GOF is like a beginning of Em saying goodbye. It's 15 years since he began, SHADYXV could be the end of something. Or do you think it's the beginning of someting new? If yes, what?

An artist from Hungary (where I live) said that "the most intresting thing about art is when a young person goes against something. The struggle. Nobody cares about a wise old man, it's not art anymore". You know what I'm talkin about.

So how you see the future of Eminem? :)

He's definitely thought about retirement. But I don't think that's what this song is about. I just think the Shady character will take a backseat from here on out. He's still Em, he will make funny tracks. But I think the majority of his stuff will have new concepts that focus more on meaningful topics. It's kind of a nice transition. MMLP2 closed those chapters from the past, GOF introduced this idea of a new Eminem in the future. And SHADYXV will likely touch on those new concepts as well as closing other chapters in his career. I think a new solo album at some point in the next year or so hopefully will be something like Recovery(or what Recovery should/could have been) with better beats, lyrics and what not.

Why wasnt gof a bonus track for mmlp2 ? was it just because they wanted to save it for the movie or what
Lose yourself in this music, this moment we own it
We won't never let it go (go), you better move yourself

Think about it, with the bonus songs (including Don't Front) you have 7 extra songs. Add in Guts Over Fear and you are at 8.
