How Long Will Em be able to Continue Headlining?

Postby GladHeAteHer » Nov 10th, '14, 04:50

He has headlined several music festivals over his career, including a few this past summer. He is a HUGE concert bill. My question for y'all is how long do you think he'll be able to keep headlining, not just performing.

I saw Paul McCartney headlining a festival, Bonnaroo, two years ago when he was 70 or 71 and he absolutely killed it for 2 and a half hours. Guys like Elton John and Lionel Richie are old as shit and still headlining stuff too, so I guess it's feasible that he could keep it up for 20 (or more?) years.

However, I feel like it's worth considering the difference in the types of music. Eminem's performances are extremely high energy the entire time, and he pretty much is screaming the whole time. Seems like quite a strain on the vocal cords. I feel like there's a big difference in that and just singing, like some of the old timers I mentioned.

Opinions?

first of all, clever username.

second, I've thought about this for a while myself. I know Em criticized Benzino for rapping into his 40's, but I don't see what isn't viable about rapping into say your 50's. Maybe he'd lose credibility in da streetz, but this is Eminem we're talking about. he'll probably always have a desire to rap.

EDIT: about headlining, idk. I guess until he can't move.

I think that's a common misconception of what Em meant about Benzino. I think he was making fun of the fact that Benzino was still trying to act like a tough gangster and trying to blow up at 40. Don't think there was ever an issue with the idea of rapping into your 40's.

Anyway, Em will always be a headliner unless it's some massive concert like back in the day.

yeah you probably right.

Eminem headlining is inevitable due to the numbers he pulls. It'd take someone with a larger fanbase than Eminem being there, which as far as I know doesn't exist. I said it in a thread a few weeks back it's more rare to meet someone who isn't a fan of at least some of Em's work these days. Especially if it's someone born within the last 30 years. And regardless of your stance on Em you'd have to live isolated in a hut on a chinese mountain to not at least know who he is.

He'll be able to headline for as long as he continues to make songs with Rihanna that pre-pubescent girls can get off to when they're in bed at night FAM

How could COULD he? / age no factor / just as in - popularity?

I think he could do it until he died aka forever and would still be huge.

He's like Mike Tyson or Tarantino... their fame doesn't go anywhere or fade away, they're just seen as 'fucking amazing' freak geniuses at what they do and really exciting. They'll always be huge, whenever they want.

He looked pretty lively at Wembley when I saw him, I'd say maybe half a decade more or so.
