"Various Artists" label on iTunes going to impact sales?

Postby TotalEminemFanboy » Nov 23rd, '14, 19:11

Hey everyone, first off, let me begin by saying I'm sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forum (if it is, mods please move it for me, thanks!)

Now then, I've noticed something about SHADYXV that may be detrimental to sales - on iTunes, and presumably other online music selling websites, SHADYXV is marked as a production by "Various Artists." I feel as though the lack of a big name like Eminem being blatantly visible on the album may lead to lower sale counts. The average iTunes user probably sees this black album with a mask on it and have no clue who made the album since it's made by "Various Artists," and therefore doesn't even bother checking it out. The album cover doesn't even say "SHADYXV" on it, and I feel like this lack of self-promotion on the album itself, especially online, may lead to much lower sales than Shady Records deserves.

It's currently only #14 on iTunes, which is pretty pathetic for such an amazing album if you ask me. It would be WAY higher if it just said by "Eminem" even though I know it isn't just him...
Eminem is the greatest rapper of all time.

I don't think a person who would buy the album will not know about it.If you get what I mean... :D

Speaking of sales, considering this is a double album will that mean each album sold will count as two? I remember Outkast's album Speakerbox and the Love Below was treated that way.

i think that itunes is not a problem... on itunes you can preorder the album... yes... but it is a digital copy.
I bet that the people prefer to buy a physic copy, not a digital copy and so is not a problem for the Shady xv's sales

If Shady wanted more sales they would've chosen a different set of songs on the greatest hits disc.

Doesn't mean that it was going to sell more lol.

Yes, i agree, but in my opinion the all fan base will buy a physical copy, the people who buy music on itunes do it only 'cause want to listen the album, eminem has a big fan base, maybe the biggest nowadays, so shady xv in my opinion will sale a lot of copies, if won't do it is only because shady xv is not a eminem's solo album

This was marketed/made for Eminem's fanbase, and not the casual listener.

Yes it will cause a problem for sales. The name "Eminem" sells and this doesn't have that name on it. I can see it having a good few weeks of sales but in January it will drop off fast. Just like with Bad Meets Evil: Hell:The Sequel.

#14 on Itunes. Never went higher than Big Krits album, and he sold like 40k first week
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.
