After The 3 Singles, How Ya Feeling About Relapse?

Postby DaKidLilj » Apr 26th, '09, 03:51

...I just felt like making a thread cause this forum seems a bit dead now...Thought I should bring this topic up even though it has been brought up but I want to make some points I didn't see before.

With the three singles so far...I seen Relapse being a pretty good album...especially compared to Encore. Encore honestly had like 5-6 good songs...not counting the bonus songs which shouldn't have been bonus and should've been on the album in the first place.

Now, what I'm tryna say, with these three singles so far, I see he stepped up his lyric game from The Encore, which excites me more for Relapse. Encore had many pop songs that didn't display his lyrical talent and especially with 3 Am...exception of his damn voice...the lyrics he spit are just crazy which I saw nothing like that in The Encore.

I for one am pumped for this album and I'm just dying for the album to come already, my only concern, which I am not afraid to admit is this whole new voice he is using. I understand in 3 am he may have used it to go along with the theme of him being a crazy serial killer but...it's not the Em we all know. I know this voice won't be all over Relapse but we all know its not just gonna be these songs that he uses that voice on which just concerns me a bit...otherwise I'm buying this first day if I can...

So...please share your thoughts.

After the third song, I've finally become almost apathetic to the album.

Which may seem weird since 3 AM was clearly the best out of them.

It's a tired thing on this forum, but his voice just kills me, and it would have been fine if 3 AM was the only one with the voice, because it works well with the song, but I just can't stand it.

Unless I hear a song that has a regular Eminem voice...I'll be pretty "whatever" to it.

I think the problem is that because Eminem has been gone for so long and so much shit has happened to him in the past, people have these expectations of him. Not of just making great quality music, but they expect him to talk about certain things and address certain events that have happened in his life. And I'm not gonna lie, I'm not too sure we are going to get that in Relapse. One of the things that made 3 AM disappointing to some fans was that it wasn't a "serious" song; there were rumors about it being a tribute to Proof or about his drug habit, and it wasn't that. It wasn't a personal song at all.

With the theme of pills, the macabre references to serial killers, the fact that Em said "Shady is back" on the album definitely has me thinking that this horrorcore style is going to be strongly influenced on Relapse. Is that a good thing? I don't know. I just feel like a lot of fans are so specific in what they want Em to do, that when he doesn't do it, they immediately dismiss it and call it trash.

I've said before that I don't want Relapse to be filled with killing sprees; I would like to hear some other things on it. But that's not gonna turn me off about the album. Just because I don't necessarily get what I want (which isn't much, imo  ), doesn't mean I can't still appreciate the nightmares on wax type of songs.

Ya know how people have always said that the expectation for Eminem are on such a high level compared to other rappers? It's so true. Not only does he have to rap well with amazing flow and lyrics, but there's even a certain subject matter that fans expect from him. It's kind of stuffing him into a creative box, which isn't really fair, imo :shakehead:

good post...n ur right...but Em thrives off shit like that man, he can rap about anything and i wont care but i have friends that if he doesnt spit shit like you hear today its whack, n they say hes whack and cant rap and i honestly dont know what to say, and then with these singles em puts out, im afraid i cant back him up too much. all i ask for from Em, is Eminem Show type music...thats it...avoid anythin dat can relate to Encore please...Em is all i listen to and no matter how bad relapse is, if its bad...i will love it so much cause its Eminem, i just hope i can love it and not have the guilt in me that i felt when i said i like Encore...

Well... Umm... I don't necessarily agree with all that. If the album's bad, then it's bad. I'm not gonna lie to myself. But a lotta times, I think people mistake bad for just something they don't personally want. Like, they didn't want a song about Em chopping up bodies or they didn't want to hear him use "that voice," even though it fit the song, so they claim 3 AM is garbage. Which is unfortunate 'cause it's clearly not :(

People want Em to do all these different things. They want him to be personal, emotional, crazy, dark, etc. I swear, just awhile ago, I read a buncha people saying they wished Em would go back to saying crazy, outlandish shit, and when he does actually do that, they're not feeling it. They think it's not as shocking in this day and age

Like I said, it's like sticking him to a creative space, and it's not fair. But then again, when is anything ever fair

yeah i know what you mean man...i dont know...my only problem is just that voice...if he stopped the voice more people will love his shit...but he can rap about what ever he wants for me just use the normal voice...that will be just fine with most people. 3am is sick but honestly...imagine he used a darker voice or something...n not that stupid weird voice.

That's definitely the new Slim Shady voice so it's either get used to it and let him do as he wishes or go listen to someone else.

The problem with the people on this forum is that most of them have the old school image of Eminem in their head and are too thick headed to realize people change and so does music. The only people saying 3am is bad are the kids who only listen to a song for the hook or the stans who are in love with 1999-2004 Eminem.

This album is going to be mad.
