Eminem's 'new direction' for Relapse 2

Postby chiasmus » Dec 4th, '09, 23:16

We've heard Eminem say that he took a clear change of direction after making Relapse and the original Relapse 2 tracks, and that the tracks on Relapse 2 will now be more emotionally-filled and will have more replay value.

With that said, what I'm wondering is... everyone's been saying that the change of direction will mean the accent will go and he will not be rapping on the serial killer theme any more...so...what will his subject material and style be now? And do you think the 'new direction' simply refers to him working with new producers, or do you think there is something more, like, I don't know, a completely different style no one has heard before??

For me, the track 'music box' hinted at that change of style. It was a really artistic track - it's hard to explain what I mean - but it just has that certain value and quality to it. Yes, he was ultimately talking about killing a woman, but the way he constructed the track, with the references to the music box and the food, it was just very creative. It almost seemed to me that the music box was a metaphor for the 'female', something beautiful, sweet and fragile. The sweet yet chilling music played by the music box throughout the track gets to the killer in the same way that women do- the girl is there, and she is unintentionally enticing him and driving him crazy. He can't take the sweetness (also check all the references made to the sugary food, i.e food for consumption by the killer) of the 'female' so all he can do in his deluded psychotic world is destroy the one thing that he finds most beautiful. He could have just simply talked about killing the girl straight off, but after a couple of listens to the song, you can tell it's been pretty well constructed and thought out. It's like Em is stepping up not only his flow, lyrics and melodies, but also his artistry and storytelling.

Anyway, that's just my take on it, what do you reckon?? More songs with artistic value on Relapse 2??

Or if not, what would you prefer the 'new direction' he takes to be?

i think music box is a good example as well... it's completely different from his relapse tracks and reminds me of the old lyrica/artistic marshall who told stories with his raps... instead of just namebashing everyother sentence

I think in R2 will be at least one ''seriall killer'' song. Dont know why i think that lol
But anyways his new direction for r2 will be great.
Personal songs(everytime he does a personal songs he puts a lot of passion on it so :worship:) storytelling, 'artistic songs'. That would be awesome
Music box is a great example, it has his crazy side but with 'somethin' that makes the lyirics great, even deep.

i think elevator is a better example, just read the chorus :y:

but i think em means he will change the subject he raps about,no more serial killer thing,he said he want to do a song that gets played thousand times ,and said the album is emotionally driven :y:

well theres enough shit to talk about

death of proof
divorcing kim again
drug overdose, nearly dying peroid (i no he kinda covered this in r1 but still)
the current state of hip hop
anythin else around him he feels passionate about APART from horror/serial killer films (we get the picture em)

and a dope original concept would be awesome, something that hasnt been done before like on SSLP with guilty conscience or MMLP with stan, or on TES with sing for the moment to an extent

em's got one of the most creative minds in music, so im hopin for something fresh n new

I don't think there is anybody who wouldn't want a Proof dedication song. I know he said on Relapse he couldn't write one, but it's been some time since then, and he's getting better, he has admitted that.

Also - anyone feeling another track with Elton John? They're good friends according to sources, and Em said Elton was someone he turned to during his drug phase. An emotional track with the two of them would be amazing. Just listen to the version of Stan with Elton John on...

And,as you said: They're good friends according to sources, and Em said Elton was someone he turned to during his drug phase. An emotional track with the two of them :worship:

I think he'll also do a few sort of playful songs that are personal, like how Elevator is. not entirely made up like 3AM or Insane. In those 2 there were no truth to his raps but in Elevator there is some. I think he really shines when he combines the two. Maybe a funny song about hallie growing up lol

hopefully we get a Proof song and one featuring Elton John

and definitely a lead single that's like Lose Yourself or Til I Collapse :worship:

I dont wanna hear all of tht name-bashing stuff, like mentioning lindsey lohan, and christopher reeves. Like people have said, id like to see a proof dedication song, and one with elton john
I know it wont happen on relapse 2, unless its a big surprise, but i would love to see em work with Lupe... Those 2 would be dope together :y:

I totally agree with the music box comment. I didn't know how to explain it but it's like he invented a 'new' serial killer. The music box is such an innocent and magical thing, and he's attracted to that sound... idk, after listening to the lyrics I am in love with this track.

just because you heard a rumor of him appearing in a horror movie I doubt that hes going to have the same shit material on Relapse 2. btw Eminem said that he's probably not going to put a single out like We Made You so I'm guessin this album will be more serious and personal.

So, maybe some funny stuff here and there (Which I want), but overall, more serious stuff.

The majority of people wouldn't listen to serial killer stuff thousands of times. So I expect a change.

That's what he said, he couldn't be lying...

I hope none of the songs are like Music Box, it's an amazing song, but he's still well and truely stuck in serial killer mode, I want him to start rapping about things that he used to, i.e. his early life, career etc....

"I listen to your demo tape and act like I don't like it,
6 months later you hear your lyrics on my shit"

"I start some trouble everywhere that I go, ask the bouncers in the club cos they know
I start some shite they throw me out the back door ,come back and shoot the club it with a 4 4"

I want something like that ^^^

I want him to round off his career with Relapse 2 with maybe a proof tribute and a goodbye song (if
this is his last album), but deffo with no more murdering wifes and stuff, we've had enough of that now, get back to the basics em!
Needs a leak
