Taking my Ball beat

Postby OMEGA » Dec 23rd, '09, 22:03

Holy crap, this beat is awesome. In my opinion, one of Dre's best. It kinda reminds me of just don't give a fuck but even better.

Can't believe that I didn't like this song the first time I heard it.

Well, it's not really the DRE we know, he changed his style big time for Relapse.
Still a decent beat IMO

Beat is okay but it's Em's flow and wordplay that make the song.

I find nearly all of Dre's beats apart from occasional gems like "Forgot About Dre" to be repetitive, unoriginal and forgettable.

If you were to name any Relapse track and ask me to hum the beat; I need to think of Em's flow first in order to think of the song's rhythm and melody and then hum it. His beats aren't distinctive or that good. They're just very loud and crisp. That's his only major distinction IMO.

Where as name any song Em has produced himself such as "The Way I Am" or "Square Dance" and the beat instantly pops into mind. I can literally start humming it as soon as I know what track you're about to say. His beats are that distinctive and original. Like "Lose Yourself" too. Totally fresh melody.

Dre's drums are also always way too loud. Especially for Em, he fucking drowns out Em's key rhymes and voice occasionally. Where as when Em or actually even most other producers make beats, they make them to complement the flow. "White America" is one loud fucking song and a thrashing beat but you can hear every word of every second. No drown-out at all, because Em makes beats that go with his voice as apposed to going against it.

PS. Dre didn't produce "Just Don't Give a Fuck". Eminem and the Bass Bros did.

Dr. Dre's style for Relapse is horrendous. Why couldn't he bring the heat like he did on Raekwon's new album? Instead, he resorts to something different..

Anyways, Dr. Dre still remains on my top 5 producers, probably 4th. :y:

I liked the beats on Relapse. IMO, you look too much into the depth of sumthin thats just an instrumental. I go by either I like it or I dont like it. Plus, if you're more of a 90's rap fan, there's a big chance you wouldnt like the beats on Relapse. Thats probably why you liked the beats on Raekwons album more. But those beats were kinda... pretty monotonous IMO.

Haha, I'm not more of a "90's rap fan". I listen to everything that's enjoyable, but Dr. Dre's production on Raekwon's album was very modern, not close to "old school", but just plain dope, especially About Me. I'm not saying all the beats on Relapse were bad, like Stay Wide Awake was magnificent, but tracks like Medicine Ball...

And some beats have lots of depth. For example, Retrospect for Life by Common. Tells a story just by itself. Same with Stan, arguably. Even without the lyrics, you can predict the content.

I dont know, I guess I just liked it cuz it was...different. Pretty unique and eccentric. It kinda fit the whole Eminem's concept change thing.
