Underlying meaning of 'No Love'

Postby Jaz » Jun 9th, '10, 20:18

Idk if this has been posted already, but I saw no threads specifically about it on the first page so w.e

Anyway, I think I got it.

1) I think it's about the fans for the most part.

Eminem - Lots of his fans 'kicked him when he was down' by attacking what he did with Encore and Relapse. Fans and other people alike have for years been talking about how bad Encore was, and many people attack Relapse as well. So he's saying these people get 'No Love' from him because if you aren't going to stand by him during a slump, then fuck you.

Wayne - Lots of his fans have been 'kicking him when he was down' by attacking what he did on Rebirth, and a ton of haters have acted like they were glad he was going to jail and shit. "Okay, you want me up in a cage, then I'll come out in beast mode" to prove these people wrong, that he can actually still burn people on the mic. Also Many fans said C3 was garbage, so the same applies to that.

Basically, they came out on this song to say fuck all you non-believers, we don't need you, and look at you probably come back riding our dicks after this.

I think it's referring to the hip hop community in general.
Caution to the wind, complete freedom. Look at these rappers, how I treat 'em, so why the fuck would I join 'em when I beat 'em?

Personally i don't think Wayne's capable of such deep meaning, unless Em told him to go for it on the song beforehand.

Wayne may not be the greatest lyricist ever, but if there's one thing he's great at, it's metaphors and punches.

Listeners, critics, haters who are going to compliment him for Recovery after saying he fell off. On other songs he's agreeing that he hasn't been as good as he used to be and "apologizing" to the listeners, but on this one he's expressing bitterness towards them. It's classic Eminem in that he's expression different contradictory emotions on different songs.

when i listen to it, it doesn't seem like it's aimed at the fans specifically
sounds like a "fuck the haters" type song in general
they're both talking about when they're down, they get all these haters pouncing on them
and when they rise up, these same people wanna suck up...and these people will get No Love

No if there's one thing he's great at it's putting lots of garbage, interchangable, pointless metaphors and similies into every track he makes.

That's also sort of what I meant.. Basically the only fans I was talking about are the ones who gave him shit for Encore and Relapse, and for Wayne for Rebirth and some for C3.. Other than that yeah, long-time haters would be included in what I was talking about.

And to Kez, I agree a good sized portion of what he said could be very unnecessary type stuff, but I refer you to my epiphany thread in hip hop domain.

Someone pointed out something I didn't think of after everyone blew off the diss possibility.

The Kanye line.. he says 'where the fuck is kanye when you need em, get these wack cocksuckers off stage, snatch the mic from em'

Now at first I thought nothing of this, but someone else pointed out that during the Forever performance at the Grammys, Kanye was the only one who wasn't there.. Idk if anyone else noticed the possible connection there, but I thought it was at least intriguing.

So maybe Kanye was Kanye in that line, and Wayne and Drake were the wack cocksuckers.

Could be reaching, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Yeah I feel ya.. I just figured it was an interesting theory at least considering it fit together coincidentally.

Em, Blaze, and Wayne were in the Studio together to make this song.

That's irrelevant. Obviously if it were true, it's a subliminal thing.
