Marshall Mathers LP vs Recovery - (Track by Track)

Postby CLV22798 » Jun 14th, '10, 06:39

Ok, so this my first post here. I heard Recovery the minute it leaked, and still plan on buying it because I loved it. When I first heard it, the first thing that crossed my mind was "I think this is almost at the level of Marshall Mathers LP". That has always been my favorite Eminem CD, with Slim Shady LP and The Eminem Show coming a close second. When the thought of Recovery being on the level of MM LP crossed my head, I immediately thought I was just saying that because Recovery is his best CD since TES. So, I decided to rate it by individual tracks. Tell me what you people think

Kill You vs Cold Wind Blows (Tie)
Stan vs Talking 2 Myself
Who Knew vs On Fire
The Way I Am vs Wont Back Down
The Real Slim Shady vs WTP
Remember Me vs Going Through Changes
I'm Back vs Not Afraid
Marshall Mathers vs Seduction
Drug Ballad vs No Love
Amityville vs Space Bound
Bitch Please 2 vs Cinderella Man
Kim vs 25 To Life
Under The Influence vs So Bad
Criminal vs Almost Famous (Tie)
The Kids vs Love The Way You Lie

So, I didn't even get the chance to put the track You're Never Over on there since it didn't fit. But it came to my surprise that I liked more tracks in Recovery than I liked on Marshall Mathers LP. So, I came to the conclusion that Recovery is now officially my favorite Eminem album. Now, I wanna hear your people's opinions. What do you guys think?

I Agree, but you realize that its just too early to rate recovery that's just my personal opinion.

I think by the end of the year, people will actually realize the true awesomeness of Recovery

For me its:

MMLP
RECOVERY
TES
SSLP
RELAPSE
ENCORE

I personally think it's a bit redundant to rate them side by side like this simply because their track numbers coincide. They're totally different songs with totally different aims, so rating "Marshall Mathers" against "Seduction" based on something as arbitrary as their position seems pointless lmao.

Furthering that path, I actually can't really rate any two Eminem albums against each other as they're all so different. Except for maybe The Eminem Show vs. Encore as Encore is a more obviously linked follow-up. It's basically an unofficial sequel and given the track themes (aside from the silly ones on Encore), it's a lot easier to compare them.

With the rest though... I mean I can more easily rank the albums from my favourite to least favourite. And therefore what I think is best to worst but that's using a more... Complete 'overall' opinionated sense, with feelings on overriding themes and directions as opposed to direct and absolute comparison.

Wow, I understand everything you people are telling me. I just wanted to rate each track side by side, as the first time I heard every song. and which one I liked better when hearing it the first time. I still remember vividly how I first reacted to listening to Marshall Mathers LP. I just wanted to see what your first reactions were when listening to both albums. Which tracks you liked better when you heard all the tracks for the first time. I know that all the tracks are different from each other, I put it that way to see what your personal favorite songs are. You can rearrange them to your liking if you want. I just wanted to hear your opinions.

Caution to the wind, complete freedom. Look at these rappers, how I treat 'em, so why the fuck would I join 'em when I beat 'em?

I hate when people try to make it seem like you're stupid for choosing a certain song over another one, when they don't like it as much as you. Everything that is put on here is opinion. and talking about opinion, amazingly there is only 1 song that I didn't like in Recovery. That track would be WTP, if Eminem would have replaced that song with the bonus track. I would not be able to skip 1 track on Recovery. That is not something I could of said about any other Eminem album. There was always a few tracks I didn't like on each album. Which is why Recovery is my favorite Eminem album at the moment.

I'm not much for comparing tracks like that..

To be fair, the best track on Recovery should be compared with the best track on MMLP and songs with the same themes should be compared...

I know it's all opinion, but just for the record:

Kill You >>>>>>>>>> Cold Wind Blows

I'm Back >>>>>>>>> Not Afraid

That's almost fact haha. :smoking:

Maybe it's just nostalgia speaking but I went back and listened to classic Em and while Recovery is good, it's just not that good.

personally I have..

Kill You vs Cold Wind Blows - no contest
Stan vs Talking 2 Myself - 2 amazing songs, but stan is better
Who Knew vs On Fire - tie
The Way I Am vs Wont Back Down
The Real Slim Shady vs WTP
Remember Me vs Going Through Changes
I'm Back vs Not Afraid
Marshall Mathers vs Seduction
Drug Ballad vs No Love - 2 great songs... I'll go with DB because waynes verse was better
Amityville vs Space Bound
Bitch Please 2 vs Cinderella Man
Kim vs 25 To Life
Under The Influence vs So Bad
Criminal vs Almost Famous - really close..
The Kids vs Love The Way You Lie

7-7? Sounds about right before I posted to be honest.. That is as far as each individual song goes, I think besides Amity, Ballad, Stan and Way I am MMLP has no "epic" songs.. Where as Recovery has like 6-8. I have TES>>>>>>>>>>Relapse>Recovery>>MMLP
