Why haven't Dr. Dre and Eminem made more serious songs?

Postby CLV22798 » Jun 22nd, '10, 03:57

I have always wondered why they have never done more serious songs when Dr. Dre produces songs for Eminem. I want to take you back to all the songs that Dre has produced for Eminem's albums.

Slim Shady LP: My Name Is, Guilty Conscience, Role Model

Marshall Mathers LP: Kill You, Who Knew, The Real Slim Shady, Remember Me, I'm Back, Bitch Please 2

Eminem Show: Business, Say What You Say, My Dad's Gone Crazy

Encore: Evil Deeds, Never Enough, Mosh, Rain Man, Big Weeny, Just Lose It, Ass Like That, Encore

Relapse: All Songs Except Beautiful

Recovery: So Bad, Ridaz

Now, my favorite collab between them is Underground. When I first heard that Eminem was coming out with Relapse and that Dre was gonna produce most of the album. I was really looking forward to it, thinking that they would do more serious songs together after all the drug issues Eminem had going into making that album. When Relapse came out, my first impression left me disappointed. It was not what I wanted to hear from an Eminem album full of Dre production. Which is why I ask the question to why they haven't done more serious songs together? I wonder how different the serious Eminem songs would sound like if Dre produced them. How would songs like: Not Afraid, Going Through Changes, 25 To Life, You're Never Over, Beautiful, Like Toy Soldiers, Cleaning Out My Closet, Say Goodbye Hollywood, Sing For The Moment, The Way I Am, Stan, Rock Bottom, Still Don't Give A Fuck, sound like if Dre produced them?

One of the main reasons I'm even asking this is because I am a Dre fan. But the problem is that the songs he produces for Eminem never end up being my favorite song from the album. The only exception was Relapse, when Dre produced all but one song. and even then, my favorite song from Relapse is a tie between Beautiful and Underground. I feel like when they make songs together, they haven't reached their full potential. I always feel like Eminem makes better songs when Dre doesn't produce them.

So, my question is this: Do you like the type of songs that Eminem and Dre make together? Or do you feel like they don't reach their full potential when they make songs together?

Most of dre's beats just don't seem to have that emotional feel to them.

Yes, I like all of their collabs (fuck Old Time's Sake though), but Dre's beats kinda limit Eminem.

I remember reading a long ass time ago... Eminem said whenever he was in the studio with Dre, he would think of the most ridiculous things to say, and he'd peak out of his eye to see if Dre was shocked or not.

I find that hard to believe, if Dre had produced some of Eminem's most serious work. I think Dre would have come up with some of the best production that he's ever done. IMO, it seems like Dre doesn't challenge himself enough when he produces songs for Eminem. Don't get me wrong, I like most of the production that he does for Eminem. But, it doesn't make me feel like it's the best stuff out there. It makes me feel like Eminem sounds better when he's away from Dre.

I'm not sure what to say, but I feel what I took most from the original post was simply that they haven't reached their full potential. Which would mean there is more for them to do, better shit, shit they haven't done, and that in itself is exciting to think about.

Man, Deja Vu' is one of Em and dre's best song together, let alone being one of em's best.

Yea, you got it down perfect. My whole point was that I don't think they have reached their full potential when making songs together. I really haven't listened to one of their songs and then thinking, that's one of the best songs I've ever heard.

I think that is a good song, but not one of Eminem's best songs. I've liked other songs better than that one. Well, I'm kinda biased since I hated Relapse lol

They definitely aren't the best out there. He's better away from Dre.

See, that's what makes me wonder tho. I loved Recovery, and feel like it's up there with his first 3 classics. I liked that he worked with different producers, and stepped out of his comfort zone. But, how do you think Recovery would have sounded like if Dre produced the whole thing? With the way Eminem sounded in Recovery, I think it would have topped Marshall Mathers LP.
