Would this tracklist had made TES, Eminem's best album?

Postby CLV22798 » Jul 9th, '10, 22:11

Ok, The Eminem Show is definitely a great album. But I have a hard time putting it above his first 2 cd's and now Recovery. There was a few songs that I felt didn't sound right in the album. What I did was just replace a few songs with other songs he made in the same year. I wanna know what you guys think:

1. White America
2. Stimulate
3. Business
4. Cleaning Out My Closet
5. Square Dance
6. Soldier
7. Say Goodbye Hollywood
8. Lose Yourself
9. Without Me
10. Sing For The Moment
11. Superman
12. Hailie's Song
13. Run Rabbit Run
14. Till I Collapse
15. 8 Mile Road
16. My Dad's Gone Crazy

IMO, if this would have been the tracklist in TES. It would have possibly been his best album with not one bad song on it. What do you think?

As somebody who critisises TES, that tracklist would not only make it Ems best album, but you're looking at one of the best albums in hiphop history right there

The skit before Soldier is necessary IMO

Yep. I also think the "Curtains Up" skit is. I'm probably in the minority, but that tracklist would still be number 3 for me after SSLP & MMLP

The skits could still go on the album, I just wanted to put the tracklisting that I think would have been better. So, including the skits, do you think the tracklist would have made TES his best album?

In terms of quality of individual tracks, yes, but as a whole album it'd make no sense.

What would the 8 Mile songs purpose be? The album is about Eminem's life being turned into a show and dealing with fame, so randomly having a fictional character rapping about still not being signed and being underground would make fuck all sense.

Actaully thinking about Lose Yourself might as it delves into the fikel life of fame. But Rabbit Run and 8 Mile Rd, as classic as they are, wouldnt sound right on the album.

I have to agree to this, but the songs I replaced I didn't think fit on the album either. I always thought Drips, When The Music Stops, and Say What You Say were all filler songs. I still think the album would have been better as a whole if the 8 Mile songs were put instead. It would have been the perfect album to me.

Well, When The Music Stops is about hip-hop and real life colliding so that fits the albums theme perfectly. Say What You Say is, again about getting famous and people dissing you etc. So again, looks at the theme of Em's life and his music colliding.

Drips is just fucking random, agreed that's a filler. I'm sure it was just to promote Obie. Fucking great track though.

You got some point there, but I feel like 8 Mile songs belongs to its soundtrack. These songs got a deeper meaning if you listen to them after watching the movie. The Eminem Show was perfect as the way it meant to be. For example Without me would be strange after Lose yourself. When the music stops was sick, and Soldier really needs that skit before it. So TES is Eminem's best album (actually I would be surprised if he'd make a better one) and it's the best because its 100% Eminem. And that 100% contains that he decides the songs makes the final cut, and it's right in that way, even if I'm not so into "Say what you say".
There will be my signature. It'll be a hot one. You'll look at it and say - wow that's a gangsta signature.

Without Me wouldn't have sounded bad after Lose Yourself. It would have been a break between 2 serious songs back to back. and there's a few songs I didn't like for the album to be perfect. IMO, the closest he's been to perfect was Recovery. There was only one song I didn't like in Recovery, and that makes it an awesome album. If he would of added the 8 Mile songs, it still would of been 100% Eminem. Since he produced those songs himself
