Relapse> Recovery

Postby Jimmy Conway » Jul 28th, '10, 20:22

I never thought I would say this when I first heard Recovery. I initially thought, "Cool, Eminem regular voice, AMAZING". And I really like Recovery, don't get me wrong. But some of the beats, singing and Eminem seeming so hard to be a crowd pleaser and not his own artist.....I just think Relapse has it beat.

Relapse

1.Stay Wide away
2.Buffalo Bill
3.3 A.M
4.Underground
5.Hello
6.Bagpipes From Baghdad
7.Deja Vu
8.Beautiful
9.My Darling
10. Careful What You Wish For
11.Music Box
12.Elevator
13.Must be the Ganja
14.Same Song and Dance
15.Insane

I think that album is better than Recovery. If he wouldn't have used any accent, it would have been a lot better than Recovery, but that accent messed it up a little.

Eminem also said that one day people would look at Encore as Illmatic. He says a lot of stuff.

I can't say the fact is, because it is just opinions. But to me Eminem made a much better album in relapse. I do think that his next will be better than either of the last two. *fingers crossed*

For me, they're pretty much on par at the moment.

Recovery has more relatable content, and at times, some better rhyming. Relapse has better multies, flows and production. Plus it has Deja Vu, which is better than anything on Recovery.

Recovery has Not Afraid, WTP and Wont Back Down and is packed with pointless punchlines and a un-natural flow. Relapse has it's duds in Crack A Bottle, Beautiful & Old Times Sake. And has it's moments of forced rhyming.

When Recovery's good it's really good but it doesnt show enough of that greatness through the whole album and damn, does it have it's low points.

So yeah pretty even for me.

They claim that I'm violent, just cause I refuse to be silent
These hypocrites are havin fits, cause I'm not buyin it
Defyin it, envious because I will rebel against
any oppressor, and this is known as self defense
I show no mercy, they claim that I'm the lunatic
But when the shit gets thick, I'm the one you go and get
Don't look confused, the truth is so plain to see
Cause I'm the nigga that you sell-outs are ashamed to be

Go head and say it. I don't mind. I didn't expect everyone to agree with me. If I thought that, I wouldn't of made the topic. That isn't a very interesting discussion talking about something that everyone has the same opinion on.

I would say they're really too different in every aspect for a direct comparison.

I could do a vague comparison in my head and place Recovery ahead of Relapse as a solid and more consistent album. But it's really only two tracks (CAB and "Beautiful") which mess it up for me. As for the "accent(s)", I love(d) them. They enhance the flows / rhyming for me, they were so energetic and hypnotic, every syllable bouncing off the next in a smooth rapid spitfire. Beautiful. I think Relapse should of just been put out as a double album to begin with with very sound quality control on material.

And he could of done so much more visually with it. I feel it was such a waste. He was starting to move into more artistic territory again instead of all this personal boo-hoo babble. I mean just picture a video for "Medicine Ball", with him like an evil dictator poet holding the world in his palm. That album could of been something else. Something great, I feel he wasted it and caved in from the criticism. I mean videos for "We Made You" and "Beautiful", two of the worst choices. :facepalm

Recovery is great though, no complaints on that album.

Reallly, I loved the accent... that was unique but as Em said, it's just Rap records...

Recovery have records to lisen like 1000 times so... the music content is better... he used the best eminem version that's why he said relapse is on the trash

I also agree with OP Relapse>>>Recovery.
The production on Recovery is just terrible. But how in the hell are CAB, OTS, and especially Beautiful duds? :shakehead: With no mention of We Made You :confusion:
And Not Afraid a dud? Wow I can see why people dislike this song, but are you kidding me? And no mention of Won't Back Down :coffee:

I said Wont Back Down's a dud (WBD). You obvioulsy thought I put WTP. (which I added in)

We Made You's a good track to me anyway. Concept was stupid but had some crazy rhyming, 5 syllable mutlies, nice beat and a smooth chorus.

Not Afraid is absolutely terrible. It's cliched, has a horrible chorus, irratating bridge and fan ass-kissing. His metaphors on this are cringe-worthy.

"Fuck the world, feed it beans, it's gassed up" - the first verse is poor but it could be the best verse of all time and that line alone would ruin it.

"Haters can make like bees with no stingers and drop dead"

"Quit playin with the scissors and shit and cut the crap"

Plus the beat is disgrace. Shitty tinny drums.

I'd go as far to say NA is the worst song since his comeback.

I like We made you. It just sticks out, kind of like crack a bottle. Seems like all Eminem albums have a few songs that, even if are good...you think....hmm maybe this song shouldn't be on this CD.
