NEW STEVE SPAG - Wasting My Time (New Studio)

Postby Steve Spag » Jun 26th, '11, 21:17

For those who don't already know, because I've been flooding Facebook like a motherfucker, I dropped a new song today titled "Wasting My Time". This is the first release from the new studio I have, so any particular feedback about quality would be appreciated too.

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10789493

This song will be part of the mixtape I'm dropping on my 23rd birthday, July 5th!

dam dude, like every year 1 hear one new song and your constantly getting better. I like the
" i barely know the day of the week, im so tweek(ed) out"
It jumped out on me in the start.
chorus is nice also :y:
second verse that Armegeden line was nice, you also rode the snare nicely on the second verse
and something about the trumpet/guitar in the end when you talk reminded me of an eminem song
5/5, way better then the other one i heard a while back

The beat is sick. Who made that?

First verse tbh sounded like any regular spag verse. I mean it was ok. Lyrics and delivery was solid and flow was ok. I really liked the chorus. The lyrics themselves weren't too catchy but the melody of it was.
The 2nd verse was much different and actually a major improvement. It overall sounded more smooth and fit the beat to a "t". And it was the first time I honestly thought you sounded "professional".

The quality was ok. I thought there was too much echo/reverb, but it didn't make the track unlistenable.

Good job tho. I enjoyed it

Good looking out guys, I appreciate the feed, especially from you Chambers!
As to who made the beat? I have no freaking clue. I actually found this beat in '07 on my old studio computer just saved as a random file, brought it home, it collected dust, and I eventually came across it and wrote to it. I wish I knew who produced it so I could give them some props, haha.

second verse was a huge improvement, quality was better but i dont think it was mixed properly...too much reverb like someone above said. would like to hear you rap more like that second verse.

What's your facebook?

Beat is amazing, props on that.

Lyrically and flow wise it was pretty nice, I didn't like the mixing on it at all. You either really fucked up your overlays or you put on way too much reverb. I wasn't feeling the echo effect at all. Besides that though, it was a dope track.
You think your personal attacks make up for what you lack?

Pretty good song.

The beat was especially nice, mostly because the drums fit the "atmosphere" perfectly, which is something many supposedly professional producers [Mister K.A, Sean Divine] lack.

The flow wasn't anything exceptionally different from your usual stuff, which isn't a bad thing. It was something we've grown to appreciate about your music. Although the second verse was slightly better lyrically, the first one flowed better for me.

Lyrics wise, the song was standard Steve Spag material, only elevated immensely. I can clearly see where improvements have been made.

The mixing on the other hand was horrendous. I could tell that your noise levels were reduced from previous material, and the vocals sounded clearer (obviously on better equipment). Unfortunately, Kyle Spratt destroyed your work in the mixing process because evidently he has this crazy idea that faint vocals, rough-reverb heavy sounds, and unaligned overlays are the new "it" industry standard.

To be fair, this isn't the first Kyle Spratt work I've heard that sounded terrible. I suggest you mix your own stuff. It always sounds better because you have more control over what you want, and the end results quality in general (it normally depends on your patience level and dedication to the mix; things many "friends" that mix your stuff won't have for the process).

Overall, the song is good. The quality doesn't make it difficult to listen to, it just detours the song from sounding "studio professional".

^^
Thanks for the feed guys.
Class, my Facebook is Steve Spag.

Maybe, thanks for the in-depth feed about the quality. I'm not really the best at mixing yet which is why I'm not doing it alone yet, but it's not that he didn't take the time to mix it, because I was there every step of the way, that's just his preferred way to do it. Keep in mind we don't have the best set up yet, we're JUST getting started really and have yet to do the major upgrades that will come in September, and as each track goes by we learn something new.

Good looks on the feedback everyone, keep it coming!
Mixtape drops on my 23rd birthday on July 5th!

Hey Steve, I don't have much to add to the positive feed other than I listened to this twice and it sounds amazing, however your spelling in the lyrics is awful!
oh yeah... and thanks for nothing too

The beat is totally sweet, love that

Personally I wasn't really a fan of the hook, you've never been the type who can do sung hooks, but you often do this kind of inbetween thing where you semi-sing and semi-rap. It works sometimes but I dunno, on here it sounds a bit awkward to me personally. The "wasting my time" added in at the end seemed a bit out of nowhere as well and didn't particularly follow the rhyme scheme of the hook (which barely rhymed at all tbh throughout it lmao), so yeah.

Track is more of the same, "I'm Steve and i'm gonna change the game etc." I know some people here preferred the second verse, I dunno personally I feel the first one was a bit better. It was very in your comfort zone for what you normally do, and you sounded more confident on it. At times in the second the flow you were trying to do slipped slightly when you had to speed up to fit the words in.

I can't talk about mixing cause I don't know shit about that haha. But yes I enjoyed the track, i'm just being critical cause I can't leave a comment just saying "this was dope" or I feel like a lazy bastard.

I will definately be checkin that mixtape as always. Look forward to it.

I might be the only one but i don't really feel the beat.. Your vocals and lyrics made up for it though.

I really can't write long feedbacks or reviews so i'm sorry if mine sounds pointless, but just to let you know that i enjoyed the track. And I feel like the vocals were a little bit too low but it may just be me.
