Should I lease/buy this instrumental? "Half Dead Anthem"

Postby Block » Dec 3rd, '11, 18:11

To my surprise, Solace did a song to this instrumental as well. I was unaware until just now when attempting to leave feed. Anyhow, this instrumental is dope and that isn't going to deter me from buying it, haha.

This is a very rough draft that I threw together as a preview--with little to no mixing--to see what people thought. At any rate, you guys have already heard the instrumental.

Lyrics:

I can hear you struggling, there's something in your voice,
Tryna keep up your composure on the other end..
The phone is full if static but I think I hear you panicing,
I think that I should go before it stops, (It will stop here)
A midnight train tressel, destination not clear,
coach full of answers we forgot how we had got here..
I think that I should jump before you land, on your back
I, think that there was something left of happiness intact..
In fact... heh... maybe if you land right
we could try to float away together with our hands tight
waiting in the sand...
waiting for the high tide to come and wash away with us,
a way for us to say that we were there (and we were dangerous)
at least to each other...
days spent smothered in the covers
overhead, we had made a little fort on that bed..
yeah we were dangerous... (that is what she.. said)...

Yo.

So, I obviously remember this instrumental since I asked Solace to send me a link to it because I thought it was awesome. And yeah it is.

I don't know if you should lease it though, I mean.. I kinda liked your verse, that's not the problem, but I don't think it's worth spending like 100 dollars for it. I'm sure you had better songs, but I do have some questions though :

- Will you re-record it? Because it lacks something, I don't know.. It seems like your voice is kinda monotonous, and if you put a little more "passion" (it isn't the right term though) it could work better.

- How many verses did you write?

And I also thought the two first bars sounded kinda .. weird on the ear, I expected a rhyme or something I don't know, but it just sounded weird.

You noticed i'm not really a professional feedback-er and some things I say may be wrong or stupid but I give you my honest opinion.

Thanks. although the mic doesn't pick up every nuance, my emotion is what I wanted.

As for recording it again, if you read in the first post, youd see that I just threw this together with little effort as a means to judge the beat. Youd have to have an east for the end creations in order to be able judge.

I felt the emotion was there, it's more likely that Trimss felt it wasn't because he heard the way I went over the beat in a more energetic attempt than you. I agree with Trimss on the thing about the first bars, where my ear was expecting a rhyme but you didn't deliver. What did you do to the beat that made it really choppy at areas lol? I think you should lease it. It would make a dope track. I enjoyed the adlibs. You said there was little to no mixing, so a final version of this should be good. I liked the verse in written terms.

I've NEVER paid for a beat, why???...Because I'm not in a position to sell my music, therefore I can't be in a position to pay for beats...

Not that I don't want to...A dope producer counts for 50% of a dope track, sometimes more, and they're underrated as fuck, so I would love to be in a position where I could put money in a Producers pocket and record a track over a beat I KNEW was 100% mine...

So the way I see it, if you're confident you can sell the track and make a profit on what you spend on the beat, then go for it!!!...Otherwise forget it...

If you're using it for exposure, and have no intention of making financial gain from the beat, then just use it...That's what free downloads are for, non-commercial, non-financial use...

Now that I'm back from being banned for being awesome...

Solace wrote:I felt the emotion was there, it's more likely that Trimss felt it wasn't because he heard the way I went over the beat in a more energetic attempt than you.

I didn't take that into account but it makes sense. Just shows the veratility that can be used on any instrumental.

I agree with Trimss on the thing about the first bars, where my ear was expecting a rhyme but you didn't deliver.

I can see where that would sound like it, but the rhymes are there. Maybe they're not accentuated the way you would expect though.

"I can hear you struggling, there's something in your voice,
Tryna keep up your composure on the other end.. "

It's not a conventional scheme. Then again, I've never been conventional, lol.

What did you do to the beat that made it really choppy at areas lol?

At the end you mean? The tag came back in so I cut it out quickly and didn't bother to align the instrumental again because it's just a preview and that shit takes a little bit to do, lol.

I think you should lease it. It would make a dope track. I enjoyed the adlibs. You said there was little to no mixing, so a final version of this should be good. I liked the verse in written terms.

Thanks man. I'll take that into consideration and see what happens.

@ Axe-D: I'm uploading it now bro. Sorry, I never think about hulkshare until you mention it.

@Midnight: I see what you're saying. That's one way to think about it, but then there's the whole, "Well, if I actually lease these I can use them in the future as well." And also just knowing that it's MINE and I can do what I want with it. Also, the tags sound really unprofessional lol.

Thanks guys. I'm going to get to feeding here in the next few days. I appreciate the comments and inputs. Also, Solace, I'll get feeding that other track you asked me to do. I've been gone, man.
