First Recording!

Postby ShAdYTiLIDie » Aug 17th, '12, 23:39

What up guys, this is my first recording, Shout out to Triple9Three he did all the mixing on this and made it sound pretty good IMO!! The flow is off a little and the lyrics arent as good as I hoped but this was more as getting the mixing and stuff figured out, only thing is he gave me all the settings and now that I want to mix a different verse myself it doesnt sound the same! idk I am terrible with this kind of stuff.. Anyways, Tell me what you think!

Damn, you're cool. Very constructive criticism there.

I love the mixing. Good job, TripleNine! You might have to mix some of mine haha.

You had great lyrics, Shady. Rhyming was great. No faults there. Only thing I say is have more mic presence. More emotion; you sounded like a robot, really... Just... be the lyrics. Deliver them with force and emotion. You have all the right tools just you need to complete them all. :y:

Hey man, good verse :P

I think I shared this with you before but same with what Eedee said. I could tell that you were reading the lyrics as you rapped them. I don't memorize all my veres but if you're unable to express emotion while reading them, you'll want to memorize them and then rap them so that you can put more emotion into them

Thanks for the feed Eedee, I'll work on that with this next one I'm recording, I have a couple ?'s for you and Triple9 if he chimes in.. I entered that odd trio contest ( Lol ) and already wrote my verse the only thing is theres a double time part and when I spit it I can understand it but when I listen to it on the recording the words seem too clustered up I guess? any way to fix that?

Any ways thanks for checking it dude!

And thanks Triple9 Ill start memorizing them, is there anything else you did to it? I tried putting those settings but it always ends up sounding too loud or just plain weird, I'll mess around with it I guess, still havent watched all those tutorials so I'll start doing that haha!

Thanks guys! @ Geno it was about 5 lol. I did it without stopping and then picking back up, which I probably wont do again I'll have to find out how to make it go smooth combining two takes I guess. Anyways, how should I work on delivery? I'll peep some of Spyders tracks, but is it like how emotional you spit??

Thanks to everyone! you guys taught me basically everything I know about writing raps ! lol

Hey man, as far as it sounding clustered - I'd have to be in the same room with you to tell you what the problem is. Are you truly ununciating the words clearly? Or are you trying to rap them too fast with our pronouncing what you are saying? That's the problem with a lot of people when they try to do double time rapping.

And nah man, I sent you all the effects I used on your voice. If you say it's too loud, you'll just have to turn the vocals down. The Master Limiter that I put on your voice ups the volume of your voice and makes it more clear, but, because of that you must turn down the vocals. Listen to some songs by professional artists and pay attention to how loud their vocals are compared to the instrumentals. Then, post a song here and we will give you feedback on the volume.

It just takes time, keep it up bro! :y:

@ Geno Thanks dude will do!

@ Insane TRex, we should do a collab homie, I recorded it in my room, ( I dont even have a stand for the mic to go on yet lol I just hold it) and I used a NTA1 Rode Microphone with a Saffire 6 USB interface.

I think that flowing on beat is more important than emotion as in you should be more worried about mastering that aspect of rapping. And given that this is your first recording, I think you did a great job. And I'm tired of saying this, but checking the link in my signature is the best I can do, haha.

Lol I'll hit you up with a PM sometime soon, I like to think my Mic is pretty good, although I'll probably be getting one more mic sometime soon just for comparison purposes to see which one I like better. Anyways, yeah I'll be giving you a shout!

Yep, you sound like you're bored or reading. Though everything else was pretty good, the mixing too. It's honestly pretty good, for a first recording.

name wrote:I won't get into anything right now, just put some more mic presence in there for now. Your tone and voice sounds very uninterested and in turn it makes me uninterested in this as well. Make some passion visible and force us to listen to you, and that kinda ties with staying on beat too. My advice is to follow the tutorial on Slim Fiasco's signature as it's the best tutorial on the web from what I've seen. Go from there. :y:

Haha, thanks man, though the link I have in there, that rappingmanual site, it's really really dope. I think it trumps my tutorial but of course, the main idea is the same.

First off, congrats on recording this man! The flow was actually really nice on this. I like it. The rhymes are always nice with you, no complaints there. Just mic presence, like name said. You just sounded like completely disinterested like you recorded while playing games on xbox/watching tv/playing cards/updating your facebook. Haha, aight, maybe not that much stuff. But you get the point haha, just try and add some enthusiasm into your voice man. Other than that, I was really imressed with how well this turned out. Props to Trip for the mixing on this too. Just keep working on it honestly, shit will come to you. I'm glad to see you stepping up so fast though, props for that.
