Thrift Shop [REMIX!]

Postby TripleNineThree » Jun 16th, '13, 20:55

So... There's this 13 year old in my town who started rapping. He wanted to do a remix to Thrift Shop so we did this for fun. He is on the chorus, first verse, and bridge - I'm on the second verse.

He's crazy good IMO for being so young. :y:

Lol that kid wasn't too bad, to be honest. His voice is a little bit too timid, but other than that... he was pretty solid for a little kid.

Your verse was dope flow-wise and delivery. As always. The only thing I didn't like is you bashing the original song. You do know that song is a parody/down-play of that kind of music/lifestyle, right? He's actually talking mad crap about people he pretended to be in the first two verses. I think the song is pretty cool, IMO. Also, Macklemore probably has more multis and stuff than most mainstream rappers. I wouldn't say his writing is "basic".

But you figured you'd talk crap about him in the song? Smh, man.

Well, the only time I heard the song was on the radio and from what I heard, I figured the entire song was simply about shopping a thrift shop. That's what the hook was obviously about and that's what the verses sound like they are about on the surface so... it's pretty easy to think that about the song.

Word, but I figured you'd listen again if you were doing a remix of it haha

No worries though. I still love you.

I just listened again... and am getting the same meaning for the song.. haha, maybe I'm not deep enough for the lyrics but the entire song sounds like it's about shopping at a thrift shop... Unless he is saying it is better to shop a thrift shop instead of wasting your money on brand name clothes?

Bro I'm happy you bashed the original song lol, it is shit on way to many levels. I don't care about the message under the surface, it's a horrible song. Your verse in this was pretty good, I haven't heard to much of your work but out of what I have heard I think this verse was the best you've done. Nice work, think you would've killed it if you did the whole song

That's exactly what he's saying. Spending hundreds on clothes just because they have a brand is stupid.. That's the message of the song.

Gotcha. Still think the songs lame though. There's other ways of giving that message when 90% of the kids who hear this song won't get that message and will simply walk around singing obscene lyrics thinking it's cool because some rapper they look up to did it.

Thanks for the feed though ;)

Well, just listened again. I got the message twisted.

He's making fun of the people who wear the same name brand clothing at the clubs while they bump to this song. Because it's ironic.

Eh, whatever. I can still appreciate his writing in terms of rhyme schemes. He has some nice multis in there.

I'm not really a fan of Christan rap if I've said before but this was pretty well written.
My only gripe would be that kids voice is quite high pitched - even for his age - and it was bit off putting.
Also, I don't agree with the entire message but damn was that hook catchy, lol.
Well done.
