SaJJad - Living In The Past [NEW SHIT]

Postby Xray » May 30th, '09, 04:35

Whats good, I been working on this track for a few days, since I went personal and wrote what I feel from the heart, I wanted to make it the best I could. The beat is by DJ Muggs, so its not something I made or got off soundclick. I mixed the track myself obviously so leave feedback about the mixing as well as the song if you can, I'd appreciate that. Here's the lyrics:

    [Verse One]
Ayo living in the past, living in a time graph
living in a scratch, of a DJ's, way back
cause rap, took a dive and never came back
and me and the modern days never really matched
born in 1990, arrived in Sydney 99
in June, just before the millennium took its prime
on the same plane, we felt the same pain
leaving our cousins back in doubt as we flew above and came
a new life, a new beginning
so whats the world like for a 9 year old in Sydney?
I kinda liked it here, no more sharing houses
cause where I came from, 3 fams in doubtness
sharing a living room, sleeping on the floor we all
feeling departured, in another world that appalled
feeling so differently, no one knew that life would be
so fucking hasty, reaching new levels of poverty
slept on the streets, in front of the U.N
demanding to leave, many families, but two went
me and my auntie's, leaving the day night hunger thirst munchies
leaving my uncle, his wife and kids, heart beats
seeds of trees pulled apart before the blood speaks
"tell me who you are", which part of me you wanna know?
flip the 9, three times you get a little devil
"tell me who you are", which part of me you wanna know?
flip the 9, three times you get a little devil

    [Chorus]
Living in the past, living in a time graph
living in a scratch, of a DJ's, way back
living in the past, living in a time graph
living in a scratch, of a DJ's, way back
cause rap, took a dive and never came back
cause rap, took a dive and never came back
this for music [living in the past]
this for music [living in the past]

    [Chorus bridge] X 2
Ayo tell me who you are, tell me what you bring
tell me what make, makes you so diff-e-rent

    [Verse Two]
I grew up on the edge, in several sights of the world
stretched from my people, living amongst the cursed
traveling through nations, learning formats of words
hearing the differences when verbs and nouns are heard
I'm in a room, bout to doom, those whom assume
homie my eyes zoom on the moon and soon I'm tuned
    morphed, evolved, capturing the gold
like a motherfuckin' pirate the treasure be my goal
    bid with evil, assassins, acids
raps the drugs, and I think that I'm an addict
missed the 90's, I grew up too late
Pac's death, Biggie's blamed, crowns thrown everywhere
its only right, that we march and riot the Hip Hopism to fire
for our desires to retire, these new commercial liars
silence this virus, that's been spreading long
and bring back the 90's when legacy's were born
its on.....like the birth of Babylon
    its on....resurrection of the gone
respawn....the darkness of hip hop at its dawn...its on

As you can see in the first 4 lines of the first verse its about Hip Hop, than the rest is about me. Than in the second verse, the first 4 lines, its about me, than the rest is about Hip Hop. Letting you know that I planned to do this, so you can understand why I switch in the second verse.

Pretty damn good dude. Good intro, very good choice of beat as well. Felt the lyrics. Nice little "plan" of yours about the 4 hip hop lines then the rest is personal and vice versa. Chorus was iight, cant really comment on it much. Didnt hate it didnt love it. Loved the flow on the 2nd verse, its what makes it shine in my eyes. Liked the whole type writing thing (or thats what I think it was at least?). Good track.

its cool............

beat is fucking nice....so props to whoever made it..........

now your shit..........your not like "omg :worship: " great...but your one of the better dudes i've heard on here..........you got a nice old skool vibe going and i dig it......there are times when you seem to like stretch your words out so it catches up to the beat.........liked the chorus and bridge.............

1 thing tho.......you made up two words lol

doubtness isn't a word.....theres doubt less......and doubtfulness.......but no doubtness.......

and hip hopism lol...............nothing major...i don't want you to think i'm like insulting you...but when you make up words and shit like that...it kinda gives me the vibe of forcing a rhyme........makes your shit sound a lil less unprofessional.............once again this isn't me making fun or insulting you...just my view on it...

overall tho it wasn't bad...i enjoyed it.........keep up the work dude

@ Solace, thanks bro, glad you liked the second verse's flow. :b:

@ chambers, it's good to know what a fresh pair of ears think about my music. Thanks for the criticism, thanks for the old school compliment haha. Yeah I can see the stretching my words part, however doubtness isn't an official word, but it does make sense so I used it. Hip Hopism fit into that sentence so I used it, this isn't a habit or anything, just a misfortune I guess. That's why I post tracks on here, for the criticism, so I didn't take your feed as insult at all. Thanks for the feed. :b:

i think you could've done something better xray...like you spoke about your life and the fall of hip hop/how you want the 90's back.but they both were kinda disconnected, like a mash-up of topics.

is this what you're implying...(and i had to reach a little to get this):
i went through these things...and you can see that pain in my music.thats not how it is in hip hop today.i feel out of place and want to resurrect the 90's.
...if it is then i think you could've connected them better.dont get me wrong,i think both parts alone were good lyrically.together they seemed square peg, round hole.didnt see a bridge together.

agree with solace on 2nd verse flow...end of 2nd verse has some sharp s's.otherwise a dope track :y:

chambers wrote:1 thing tho.......you made up two words lol
doubtness isn't a word.....theres doubt less......and doubtfulness.......but no doubtness.......

yeah we poets are allowed to do that :shifty:
whose arm is this?..i must've cut it off at the pharmacist

Tight shit, beat fits 100 percent the concept of the song as well as mixing, didn't find anything wrong in mixing :y: Great quality, without noise and flow is wicked. I would say Sajjad is the king of underground in TR Community :y: :y:

i think everything connected well together, i really like this shit, and about those made up words, its nothing, "fizzle, gizzle" aint no words, and i can name so many of those that arnt words used in rap music, so its not really a problem, nice deep music.

To be honest I felt like your voice sounded a little forced and stressed and took some getting used to. Beat/ flow/ lyrics were great as usual though. :y:

Hmm....
I was hyped for this track but I feel like you could have done a WAY better job man...
Flow was off in a lot of the first verse and towards the beginning and end of the last verse. Delivery sounded good; though you sometimes stressed the ''f'' syllable a bit to much. Beat was sick. I liked the changes of flow although it seemed like that threw you off tempo. Lyrics were nice.

I noticed you stretched your syllables like elastic, and that's ok, though the way you did it brought away from the quality of the track. Like listen to ''Destruction of the First Aid'' and then listen to this, the flow on that track was perfect and this one has a lot of holes in it. Know what I mean?

Good track though man; maybe rerecord it so you can fix the flow problem. Also I think this was a bit rushed? That's how I felt while listening to it, like you had a certain time period.
7.5/10
LMFAO@ Brittney, bitch looking worse than a chupacabra mixed with a broken down coyote. You're disgusting ugly, so ugly in fact, my brain simultaneously exploded while processing how bitterly grotesque you look. I would much rather stick ice picks into the walls of my cranium, then stick my dick into your quagmire of a clitoris. You're what would happen if a sperm whale mated with a Godzilla fish..

This is really good...great choice on beat...and awesome mixing as usual

only thing i have to complain about is..Your delivery should have came a little more calmer...like you were practically yelling the whole song...Remember how you spit in Cold World? you should have used that delivery in this song and it would have been 10/10

BUT none the less this is an awesome track

8/10

not a fan of the beat, and not a fan of the way you sound on it.

flow is good, rhyming is toned down from your usual, but i much prefer this. nice to finally here some of your backstory.

not a fan of the hook, slightly boring.

like the bridge.

second verse was better than the first. although the end of this verse was a bit weaker.

i'm not a fan of the whole "resurrect hip hop" movement. if you're such a fan of old school rap from the nineties take a quote out of Tupac's book "You grow. We all grow. We're made to grow. You either evolve or you disappear." so you either evolve with the music, or you fade away. i agree that today's rap sucks, but there's nothing you can do except hope that it moves forward into something better, which it will.

overall, this isn't a song i'd listen to twice. again, i wasn't a fan of the beat or the way you sounded on it. definitely not a bad track, just not my personal liking. i would have rather heard a personal song on a more personal sounding beat with a more personal sounding delivery lol.

damn

first verse is deep, very deep... its great... the hook is really unessesary on this one but it managed to be a good adding

I loved this track... muggs is amazin on the beat

about the mixing, I can barely hear the vocals they are too low, and they still needs to be more clean, sounds too professional tho', its an amazing job on the machines

this track deserves a :worship:

good work... I can see the tough work you put into this track

it's okay, not up to your standards the voice you used wasn't the best voice for this song... a more heartfelt delivery like on that collab with sticcy would have been WAY better.

but this is still a good song, just doesn't match your better songs

flow was good, you slipped when you started talking about the commercial game.
