Were D12 carried by Em too much?

Postby BlueberryWun » May 7th, '13, 17:31

Eminem produced the majority of Devil's Night and D12 World with the exception of a few songs. He did the majority of the hooks himself on both albums, Obviously rapped verses on the majority of both albums. We got classic production on Devil's Night of course but that was Eminem who did that so overall were they carried by his artistic brilliance too much looking back?

No. Why the fuck wouldn't you use an asset like Eminem to help bring your group to the forefront? The goal was to get his friends noticed, and when he was with them all the time it worked.

This... he came back for them & helped 'em out. They deserved it & it paid off. Unfortunately they still deserve one more album but it's probably too late.
Big ups to Em for sticking with his friends & giving them a chance.

Anyone Em tries to really help out, it never works out for them like it should. 50 is probably the only exception.

Well D12 have 2 platinum plaques, Obie Trice has a platinum plaque. That is more than 90% of other rappers can say darlin.

D12 plaques aren't even just platinum.... both acts, D12 & Obie definitely worked & left their mark. 50 went through the roof & brought his own acts as well.

Yuh that's the thing they actually sold more than just platinum. But on the creative side of things it was Em producing almost all of their albums, doin all da hooks etc It just seemed to me years later on it feels like he carried them a whole lot musically.

He's definitely done a lot more than anyone else form the group but all crews have their front men... that's just part of the game. He was way too big at the time so having another rep & carrying another act was easy... he should have even done more back then. Outz or BME album before TMMLP would have definitely been on point.

Okay think about it this way, you have a group and one of the members is one of the worlds biggest artists with a talent for writing, and producing. It would be incredibly stupid to not utilize that asset if you want your group to do well. Devils Night had heavier Eminem presence than D12 world because he needed to get them known, then D12 world was more a group effort because using the Eminem factor had managed to get them noticed.

He wasn't carrying them, they were using an asset to get the group recognized, and it worked.

Pretty much... he was the front man who was having his crew on his side as another rep.
