Allhiphop.com was granted a special interview with Dr. Dre. He had some interesting things to say about Eminem, 50 Cent, G-unit, Shady/Aftermath, In-Label fighting, And alot of other things.
AHH: Welcome Dre, thanks for allowing us to interview you as we know you have a very busy schedule.
Dre: Yeah, I'm runnin the label thats runnin the rap game right now, so yea, I'm jus a lil bit busy.
AHH: Lets start off, last week, Eminem got admitted into a detroit hospital because of an addiction to sleeping pills, what is your opinion on this?
Dre: Eminem is my man, when he came to Cali on the Anger Management Tour, he came to the studio and we had a nice long talk, we barely get to see each other. Once every month. We even did a few songs for an unnamed project. I was actually supposed to go up to his detroit studio to record some tracks for Detox over some Shady beats, but I'm not sure whats gonna happen now that he is having some problems. I truly hope he gets over this, I haven't made many friends in the rap game, Eminem is an exception.
AHH: Eminem is producing for Detox? And Can you tell us more about the unnamed project?
Dre: Yeah, no matter what anyone says, Eminem makes good beats. He truly has elevated himself over the years as both lyrically and production wise. I hear people saying his beats sound the same, but if you really listen, how he EQ's the drums, what different instruments he uses, what seuqences, etc. You really get the feel for him. You can't tell me warrior part 2 on Lloyd Banks album sounded like Don't Push Me on 50 cent's album. Like Cmon. And the unnamed project(laughs), just wait and see.
AHH: Speaking of Lloyd Banks, How is your relationship with him? People wonder why you didn't produce anything for his album, can you tell us why?
Dre: To be honest, Banks and I are really close. We talk twice a week over the phone and we have a pretty good business/personal relationship. As for the production of his album, I was busy with Game and Eminem, I had just gotten Busta Rhymes and Eve at the time his album was being recorded, so I had a pretty busy schedule. I promised Banks I would give him some hot joints on his next album. Same with Buck.
AHH: Can I ask about Tony Yayo, Olivia and the rest of G-unit.
Dre: I produced about 6 records for Yayo's album, but only "Live by the Gun" made the cut. Olivia, I produced 3 records for her album, and I know that 2 have already made the cut. I will be producing for the rest of G-unit, don't worry about that man.
AHH: Thats good, I wanna hear some good G-unit lyrics over some Dre beats.
Dre: (laughs) thats what you gonna get man.
AHH: What are your thoughts on the 50 and Game beef.
Dre: They are both men, they can work it out. Em and Myself talk about this, and were neutral in the whole thing. Em and Game are close, 50 and Em are close, Em and Myself are close, 50 and Myself are close, and Game and Myself are close. So its sort of like a catch 22, if you go one way, it will hurt the other. They are both signed to Aftermath, and other than those two beefing, the atmosphere is really good over in Aftermath. My point is, Game and 50 need to work out their differences by themselves. I know they will, it just may take some time.
AHH: Speaking of Detox, can you tell us some more information about it.
Dre: (laughs), ya'll must be anxious. Well, I guess I can tell you some things about it. I am still deciding who is gonna be on it. So far, I have recorded with Eminem, Lloyd Banks, 50 Cent, Snoop and Hitman. Production wise, I'm gonna handle most of it. When Eminem is better, he is probably gonna drop 2-4 records on it, Focus will be doin 2, Scott Storch will be doin 1. And some other surprises your not expecting. You better get that album.
AHH: Will Detox be your last album?
Dre: We will see. I have a good groove on right now, so I'm saying..Expect The Unexpected.
AHH: How are Statlanta and The Big Bang coming along?
Dre: They hot. Comin along nice and tight, ya know? Aftermath, Shady and G-unit is runnin this rap shit. Busta should be out by late September and Statlanta should be out by November. They both have fire albums, the rap game aint gonna be the same.
AHH: Can you comment on Em's retirement and 50 leaving Aftermath?
Dre: You need to know a rumour from a fact. If 50 left Aftermath, he wouldn't be the same artist. The home you grew up in determines how you succeed later in life. Me and 50 are in good terms, ya know. Did you not hear the beat and video to the outta control remix by 50 and mobb deep? Thats the kind of relationship we have. Everytime me and 50 are in the studio, its magic, thats the same way with all of my artists. As far as Eminem's "impending" retirement goes..(laughs) he is supposed to retire After ME, isn't he? Eminem's gonna be around for a while, we got some *Hot* shit comin.
AHH: What are the future Projects coming from Shady/Aftermath/G-unit
Dre: Shady/Aftermath/G-unit is gonna be runnin this rap shit for a while. Everyone on the roster will be releasing from 2005-2007, and it won't stop. We gonna keep releasing albums, making the rap game better, making money, etc. We on top, and we kicked the ladder down so no one else can reach us. As far as releases go: 50's Massacre Re-Release, Busta Rhymes, and Stat Quo, Olivia and Tony yayo are goin this year. 2006: The rest of G-unit, Bishop, our new artist, and the rest of the roster are releasing their albums. Aftermath, aint gon be nuttin after that.
AHH: Are you gonna be workin on projects from artists outside of the Shady/Aftermath/G-unit family?
Dre: Yeah, but I'm not gonna tell you who now, you gonna have to read the news, and buy the albums to find out.
AHH: How do you feel about the G-unot and Game over campaign.
Dre: Game and 50 can keep doin their thang, its gonna eventually fall back on one of them, but if they truly want to succeed and live to reak the benefits of the music, they will stop soon enough.
AHH: Thank you for letting us have this interview. Any last words?
Dre: SHADY/AFTERMATH/G-UNIT IS RUNNIN THI SHIT, ALONG WIH BWS. Stay tuned, we got some hot shit for ya, And Em aint finished yet, trust me, we got some Hot shit comin straight outta HELL (laughs)
