Update:

• The digital version of 50 cent'e album was rush-released in the United States through Apple's iTunes Store on Monday, Nov. 9, ahead of its CD counterpart's bow on Monday, Nov. 16. All configurations of the set were originally scheduled to drop on Monday, Nov. 23, but it leaked to the Internet nearly a month before that, prompting 50's label Interscope Records to push its release forward.

• Because of this situation, Interscope has requested that Billboard and Nielsen SoundScan uphold an existing policy regarding album Internet leaks. In a rule instituted nearly a year ago based on industry input, a label may ask Nielsen SoundScan to hold the digital sales of an album title for up to one week, and Billboard to delay charting that title, when a leak situation has resulted in a digital album beating its physical counterpart to market. Therefore, the first-week digital sales for "Before" will be added to its overall retail sum for the week ending Nov. 22 and the title will debut in next week's issue.

• Billboard, along with Nielsen SoundScan, will review the merit of maintaining this rule.

So this may help his official first week sales, and Hits may or may nit be including that 1st week of itunes sales, guess we will see soon enough

If that's to work then that's quite good for 50 Cent and other artists who've suffered from the leaks. It can be helpful at least.

November 20, 2009

Like an NFL coaching staff making in-game adjustments on the fly, Interscope’s Jimmy Iovine and Steve Berman did some last-minute maneuvering around the release of 50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct following worldwide Internet leaks weeks prior to the original street date. In rapid succession, they pushed forward the physical release date from Nov. 23 to Nov. 17—the soonest the CD could be manufactured and shipped—while also working out a one-week exclusive with iTunes for the digital album, to take effect Nov. 10. In return, iTunes agreed to go against its standard policy and “locked” the album, with only the single available a la carte, selling 46k album downloads during the exclusive window. Additionally, the compilers of the charts agreed to include the initial iTunes sales in the total for first week of general release. This last bit of news raised the hackles of rival label executives at Sony Music and EMI, who had been preparing for a two-way battle for #1 on next week’s charts between Columbia’s John Mayer and Blue Note’s Norah Jones.

Seems like those 140-150k is already included first week digital sale on itunes, which means without digital sale it would be like 90-100k.

And also Norah Jones beat him after all :o

http://hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgi

YOUR WEAKEND TOP 12 CHART PREVIEW: John Mayer should easily top next week's album chart with a total kissin’ close to that of his last studio effort in 2006. Lest we forget, boys and girls, that's something to brag about these days. Andrea Bocelli will likely be the #2 album next week, as his Christmas release continues to pick up steam. The rest of the Top 5 could land in any order, as Norah Jones, 50 Cent and Casting Crowns all look to land in about the same area code. But given that this is the weekend before Thanksgiving, don't fall out of your chair if sales pick up and make it a race for #2 on Monday. But that’s three days away…
* John Mayer (Columbia) 290-315k
Andrea Bocelli (Decca) 190-200k
* Norah Jones (Blue Note) 150-160k
* 50 Cent (Aftermath/Interscope) 140-150k

the worst part is that 50 actually dropped a Dope album this time. I loved BISD, it was well done and even had some great lyrics, so I believe he really did deserve success for this album, but the month leak hurt it incredibly, everyone i know downloaded it but no one bought it. Im haven't been a 50 fan since post massacre but this album suprised me a lot
