Actually, the crowd was originally cheering because he asked if he could Relapse with everyone.
Naturally, we all thought he was about to jump into some songs off of Relapse. Then he brings out the bottle. I'm not going to lie, I wasn't sure what was going on. I didn't think that he was going to actually relapse right there onstage in front of 90k people, but it looked like it.
Kon did indeed play it off well. His reaction actually gave the whole stunt credibility. I was looking at him, and he was looking at the DJ, shaking his head. It was surreal, for sure. All of it was happening fairly quickly though, so I didn't have much time to wonder about it myself.
The people I was around (strangers, in from Detroit) were shouting "no!" as he held the bottle up. There were a lot of people shouting "no", at least where I was at, just a few rows back from the stage. The people that cared the most, the ones that showed up 3+ hours early, those people were freaking out.
However, with nearly 100k people behind you, your protests tend to get lost in the noise. Everyone near me let out a big sigh of relief when the "vodka" started pouring out of his sides. It was crazy, man. Just crazy.
One of the more impressive nights of my entire life.
