I'm really surprised at the negative reaction here. This is definitely true to the whole concept and purpose of Trunk Muzik, to have music to cruise and ride around to. Funky music, done in an interesting way. To me, this is like the evolution of his OutKast influence.

Don't judge the project off of two songs either. Maybe you won't like it, maybe it isn't for you. But remember, the original Trunk Muzik had "Lick the Cat" as one of the singles, so don't trip. Anyway, I'm enjoying this song myself...plan on having the full TMR playing in the Cadillac nonstop when it finally comes out.

Try not to form any expectations guys, take the music as it comes.

Holy shit! This song grew on me faster than Way Out.
I still don't really know. I guess the name is what threw me off. When I heard "Trunk Muzik Returns" i thought it was going to have that same "Trunk Muzik" feel, but this treds far from it, so he really should have named this project something else. Pretty sure this isn't going to sound like a proper sequel to Trunk Muzik. Should have been something in its own right.

The thing is though, "trunk music" is an idea.

It's a vibe that the songs give off. That's how Yelawolf always described his music when the press was interviewing him around the Shady Records deal, when talking about what he does in relation to what Slaughterhouse did. He said that they don't battle in the south, they hang out in parking lots and tell stories. Laid back, story telling, trunk music.

Something that you ride around to in a big ass American car. Chevy or Cadillac, whatever. Subs optimal, but optional. Have the seat reclined to an angle 110 degrees (or so) and drive around on broken asphalt and drink some cheap beer. Or smoke a blunt, you know...whatever.

Anyway, the point is that it's true to the idea of Trunk Muzik. So far (based on two songs) it seems like it may be a departure from the previous production style, but he's just expanding on what he did before. I'm interested in where this is all heading towards.
