Songs I love from the album are Our House, Throw That, Hammer dance, Get Up, Flip a Bird, Rescue Me, Goodbye, Die, Asylum and The Other Side pretty much. I bump Coffin, Frat House and Our Way sometimes. They're my guilty pleasures.
Its a good album. Gets too much hate except for shit throwaway tracks like Throw it Away, Park It Sideways, Walk of Shame and Place to Be. My Life is pretty embarrassing too.

What the hell is wrong with Place To Be? Their chemistry on that is amazing.

I'd rather read each post Slim Cary has ever posted than listen to that song again.

I find the verses a little annoying, and B.o.B didn't seem to fit in but he dropped a decent hook. I'm not going to lie, that throw-catch verse they did at the end was dope. But overall is not one of the strongest songs on the album and didn't seem like a Slaughterhouse song imo.

Nothing I would play a lot. But if you like it, oh well.. To each his own.

In the studio with Just Blaze.

Just Blaze better BRING HIS A-GAME. Good producer, but with too many average beats
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

I love the way the sample is incorporated
"How quick are you gonna get up?". Too dope.
And the Fantastic Four intro/outro sample was just amazing too. :flutter:

Eedee wrote:EmBase, why do you think the album was muddled, compromised, weak etc?

Because it felt like a collection of b-sides and single attempts... it felt like 'Radioactive'... promising concept and talent on-board but totally fucked and compromised.

There's broad song concepts, some in an attempt to seem 'deep', some in an attempt to seem like 'ballers'... it's like they chose every cliche in the book to make a song about and it just feels desperate, like they don't know what they want to say so just say everything.

The production is abysmal top to bottom... there's one or two stand-out tracks to me, those being "Flip a Bird" and "Frat House" but even those are meh; there's no creative or decent or new or exciting concepts... nothing of real value... nothing long-lasting... it's just a collection of mostly mediocre verses with generic hooks and awful, awful beats - none of which seem to gel with each other. It's like a really bad mixtape.

And the verses is another point to make: if ANYTHING, you would expect that with a SH album that the verses would blow you away... but I heard hardly any decent lines, a bunch of cringing ones and really really bad, bad puns and... pointlessly empty lines which don't mean anything like "the most beautifulist thing in this world, is the funerals I bring to this world"... everything about the album including the lyrics is just tacky and aimless. One of the most disappointing debuts ever.

Which is very very strange considering Em is so sharp lyrically since 09, in terms of his flows and rhymes and just general energy - being sober and focused, it's just weird he could make such a mess out of this. And make no mistake, it is Eminem's mess. They recorded a slew of vocals and Em made an album out of it, that's what they said. The end result is beyond forgettable.

Valid points. I guess for me, it's just that I love the songs. Some are generic and shit, etc, like you said. But overall I liked the album. I still bump it. I enjoy the energy and vibe of the album more-so than the content and whatnot.

Makes you wonder though, what kind of quality did they give Em to work with. THEY made the songs, THEY chose the producers, THEY chose the concepts...they have such talent at their fingers tips with regards to producers and THEY decided to go a certain dead-end direction.

True. All involved are at fault.

But there's no doubt Em tried to use the 'Recovery' template for the album.
