Yelawolfs Radioactive

Postby cheeseburger » Feb 19th, '14, 10:01

I thought that we could discuss this now that were waiting for music and what not.
We all know Yelawolf made this album in an attempt to get into the mainstream. He and Willpower saw the success in Trunk Muzik and wanted to expand on that. They were new to the label situation and felt unsure about all the A&Rs walking in and out of the studio all the time.
Yelawolf have said several times that he blames himself for letting it happen, but that his deal with Interscope was that if this doesn't work, you will have to give me 100% creative momentum to do my own shit. It didn't work, and people thought He would get dropped or something.

Watch this! Willpower on the situation

But Interscope held their promise. Yelawolf sat down with Willpower and a bit with Malay and some other producers and influential people to make Love Story ( :flutter: ). Not one single A&R or label affiliated person interfered in their sessions. A bunch of Interscope people including Paul Rosenberg flew over to Nashville when the album was already done to listen to it. Everyone was stoked and Interscope has opened their pockets for Yelawolf and things seem brighter this time around.

What I wanted to discuss whas; Which songs on Radioactive was the real deal, the songs Yela WANTED. And which songs where put there with prerecorded hooks, meant to hit the radio, not Yelas choice etc.

Bold = "fake" songs

Tracklist wrote:1. "Radioactive Introduction"

2. "Get Away" (featuring Shawty Fatt & Mystikal)

3. "Let's Roll" (featuring Kid Rock)

4. "Hard White (Up in the Club)" (featuring Lil Jon)

6. "Throw It Up" (featuring Gangsta Boo & Eminem)

what i never understood was why he didnt have a radio song that actually did anything. point being, if the label wanted that, they didnt even have a successful song. Also, I assume they would have wanted at least 2 that could get some solid radio play.

I´ll add this. Some of the songs I took out of the list is actually good in my book. Like Write Your Name for example. I love it. The flow on the verses, the lyrics, the hook, the beat.

And Emadyville, I see what you mean. It looked like they put all hope into Lets Roll (fucking terrible song imo) and that Kid Rock would magiclly save everything.
Then when that didnt do shit they dropped the ball kinda. Thats how i felt.

Made in the U.S.A is a great song. Should have been a single.

If the verses were longer, Id agree on it being great. Damn, what could've been :(

Or have one long Yelawolf verse and one long Em verse. Put someone like Rihanna on the hook and Yela is going platinum.

I wish "No Hands" made the final tracklist.

And not a crazy rhyme, but one of my favorite Yela lines:
-I've been raisin' hell, so I can make it to Heaven

This song is so dope. The mood it sets, the rhymes, the delivery...everything is awesome.

One of the best possible ways to start an album.

If they really want Yela to go mainstream, hav Eminem and Yela do a "radio" song together. Such as like a Niggaz in Paris. Or have them do something like… A popish song with rap vocals and then on the album do a hardcore rap song together as a non single.

The only thing he should use to open up the mainstream lane is his singing capability.
When people hear just how good he is as an artist they will lose it.
He says hes not interested in that anymord but I doubt it.
Anyway, I would love more singing from him. Hes so good he can almost turn me homosexual with his voice. Im sitting there like :flutter: when his part comes on in Outlaw Shit.
