i think obie's second rounds on me was just bad timing, with the whole "no snitch" campaign with MTV, and jamaican girl didn't have time to click with the mianstream, so he sold shit. it's not his fault, it's not shady's fault. success in entertainment has a lot to do with luck, and obie just hasn't had it.
but anyway, i think the best of SR was the signing of 50. whether you don't like him now or never liked him at all, 50 is not in the same category as obie and d12. he is a star himself. every article about him doesn't have to mention eminem or dre. plus, when he came out with GRODT, he changed the tone of hip hop. the fad became all about "gangsta" and that i'm-a-hard-rapper- image. plus, he sold a buncha records, and had people all over the world singing his song. and shady was at the forefront of hip hop, what with the success of em's 8 mile and 50's GRODT, and the beef with benzino and ja.
i think the worst is currently happening. albums being pushed back, no new music. it doesn't seem like shady is a "family" anymore. because before, i always got that feeling of closeness between the guys. they weren't just labelmates, they were friends. but now, it's like there's not even a shady records anymore.
great post....
and to ur last point...yea i actually have an interview from eminem after he released "encore" he said that family shit and told about stat etc
but oh well...but i pretty much agree wit ya in every point
