British music better than American?

Postby nathan123 » Nov 30th, '13, 15:05

British:
The Beatles
Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin
Queen
Rolling Stone
Phil Collins
Richard O'Brien (Guy who wrote every one of the Rocky Horror Picture Show songs)
Elton John
The Who
Spice Girls

USA:
Elvis Presley
Michael Jackson
Madonna
Billy Joel
Aerosmith
Eminem
Bob Dylan
KISS
Eagles
Jimi Hendrix

Who do you think writes better music?
And even in 2013 seems like British artists are becoming more successful, one direction, Adele, Emile sande etc

They both have great artists, two of my favourite bands of all time "The Doors" from the US and "Pink Floyd" from the UK so i can't choose which one is the best :confusion:

I don't care where is coming from the music I listen to of course, but i think British music got the best artists, at least some years ago, don't know really now.
I'm out of the matrix and I improved my music taste here, I opened my eyes and discovered so different ways to see the world, thanks to you all!

Forgetting Coldplay and Muse when mentioning British bands should be a crime.

Break it down in terms of genres

Who is considered the greatest rock band of all time?: Zeppelin or The Beatles typically, depending on who you ask -- both British.

Rapper?: Eminem, Jay, Nas, Pac, Biggie usually -- all American

Pop?: Michael Jackson, Madonna? -- American

R&B?: Whitney Houston? I don't know, there are a few others -- American

Jazz?: I don't know many big artists from this genre but I would assume American.

Soul/Funk?: James Brown? American

And so on and so forth. As someone mentioned, if we're talking 60s/70s rock, obviously British. But music overall? Where do most of the so called greats hail from? Most British greats all come from the same era. Americans have artists that dominated every era before and after the 60s/70s.

That said, it's not a competition and I love British music.

We brits have had some giants old and recent, Adele is currently making waves worldwide, however Americans do hiphop the best, they're untouchable in that genre

The British rock when it comes to rock and Americans seem to dominate other genres though not all the time.

OP you forgot for the British:

Oasis
Adele
Coldplay
Sex Pistols
Dido
Take That
Tom Jones
Rick Astley

When it comes to British music vs American music, British obviously dominates. The British also dominate sports, football(soccer), culture, cars(European).

The only thing America wins are the movies. Plus America was made by immigrants anyway such as British(England, Scotland, Wales), Irish, Mexican, French, German, Polish, Spanish, Italian, Eastern European and Indian. Although American schools don't teach them that with it's poor education system were students carry guns also having to pay for medical care. Lol USA = Land of the free were you get spied on by air drones.
