I dont like Stan much but obviously every1 thinks its classic; Rock Bottom and Sing for the Moment are classic. Business is all about a vintage Eminem and Dr Dre combination. Did you hear his flow? A track doesnt have to have great content to be considered classic; buffalo bill is even close to a classic for me just bcoz of how much I can replay it and enjoy it everytime. A song as technically good as "Business" should never be considered filler. :shakehead:

So you're saying as long as the flow is good, whatever the hell he said in the song doesn't matter? :shakehead:

His lyrics are good in that song. Not deep or anything but perfect bravado + he totally rides that beat so damn well, also, the hook is great. Any rapper would kill to have a song like that on their album as 1 of the dope tracks let alone filler.

This is great lyricism irrespective of content (which, given Relapse, is also fine)

"It's just like old times, the dynamic duo, two old friends, why panic, you already know who's
fully capable, the two capped heroes, dial straight down the center eight-zero-zero, you can
even call collect, the most feared duet, since me and Elton played career Russian Roulette, and
never even see me blink or get to bustin' a sweat, people steppin' over people just to rush to
the set, just to get to see an MC who breathes so freely, ease over these beat's and be so
breezy, Jesus how can shit be so easy, how can one Chandra be so Levy, turn on these beats,
MC's don't see me, believe me BET and MTV are gonna grieve, when we leave, dog fo' sheezy,
can't leave rap alone, the game needs me, 'till we grow beards, get weird, and disappear into
the mountains, nothin' but clowns down here, but we ain't fuckin around round here, yo' Dre,
what up, can I get a hell, hell yeah, now..."1

^ lyric is nothing special :coffee: yes it's a catchy song but never an awesome song, let alone a classic to me. And it's not like I'm trying to convince you to change opinion, just saying.. like Superman is my favorite song and listen to it a lot but in no way it's a classic in my eyes.

is a song considered filler if it's not about his personal life?

i'm not trying to attack, just wondering how you classify fillers.

eh, I consider filler is kinda song that I could live without, like it's fun to listen to but if it's not on the album it doesn't affect the main quality/theme of the album at all.

& i'd dispute that by saying Business has a very carnival-esque feel (The Eminem Show) to it. he even says "Introducing the star of our show... his name is Marshall." so kind of an introduction to the album.

it's also about Eminem & Dre being like batman & robin, saving the rap game. this theme is continued in Without Me. so it fits in with the album. :y:

no mean to attack but that's like saying Encore is a perfect sequel to TES because it's named Encore.

^ lol don't worry there are ppl who write much longer in here.

I'd consider My dad's gone crazy a filler too if not for the 3rd verse. You said the line "welcome to Marshall & Andre's carnival." which makes it even clearer, he did this just to fill the opening of the album, that's the point of it. TES is serious to me, and tracks like Business & Drips really stand out as he didn't put cry his heart out in it :coffee: That "saving rap game" matter can be put in any album after that, it doesn't necessary belong to TES. While the others "main" song feel like TES is the place they belong, one track flow into another.

If I had to choose filler on TES (there isnt any imo) it would be Drips and My Dads Gone Crazy.

Amadeo wrote:i like When The Music stops (bar bizarre's verse). i just don't think its content (the negativity that follows a rapper's retirement/death) fits with the rest of the album so i consider it filler. but polished filler.

Bizarre's verse was good by his standards IMO lol. But it seems we all have a very different view of filler material, it seems :-k . Either way Business is a great song on a great album.

Definitely one of the best songs on The Eminem Show in my opinion. The track kindda re-introduces himself to the music industry by making fun of his (and Dre's) role in the game. No fart jokes!!

I would have highlighted a few lines from the song but realized that all the lines are quite good.

And the beat sounds awesome in my stereo!
