Headlights

Postby momentsgolden » Nov 11th, '13, 00:08

After READING the lyrics of the song these lines standout as poorly done

Though far be it for you to be calling, my house was Vietnam
Desert Storm and both of us put together can form an atomic bomb
Equivalent to Chemical Warfare,

And that's when I realized you were sick and it wasn't fixable or changable

As a tribute I wrote this on the jet
I guess I had to get this off my chest
I hope I get the chance to lay it 'fore I'm dead
The stewardess said to fasten my seatbelt, I guess we're crashing
So if I'm not dreaming, I hope you get this message

the first one is atrocious. The last two are made particularly bad because of the beat change that happens there.

I also feel sometimes he moves into "character" like when he says Momma at the end of the second voice with the kiss sound effect. Its things like that that irritate me about the song. I want to love this song so bad but all these things make it lose momentum. just as he is about to reach a climax, finish a verse, get to a good part, he puts those things and they are just awfully executed.

The best line of the whole song is

Cause to this day we remain estranged and I hate it though

Both times its delivered with heart, urgency, regret. History. Its very good writing. If he had focused on writing lines like that and removed a couple unnecessary words, slowed down to allow words to sink in, it would have been classic. Now, its just good to great :(

I will add that Headlights isn't a song I really listen to very much though. But it is a very very great song.

That's still a pretty poorly written line. Adding "though" at the end just so it fits with other rhymes when it's not really proper to say that at all.

Its put in to rhyme but it SOUNDS good to me. You are right, the though is unnecessary but after listening to the song so many times the line just rings in your ears in a weird but good way.

I don't listen to it as much as some other songs on the album, but it's perfect for what it is.

By the way, it sounds great even fast forwarded :D

Are you trying to learn EM how to make his records? Lol some people on here, think they fucking know better than EM,ridiculous.
You fuckboys complain about everything, its like you fucks go through his cd looking for something to hate on,every little fucking thing.

EM made the song the way HE liked it.
Fuck what you think.

10/10 song.Nuff said.
Cry babies, maybe my way that i use words is loose
but you turds better be careful how you choose yours
Cause feelings scar, but egos bruise worse
And the truth hurts, shit no wonder youre sore losers

It almost sounds like his last verse ends rather abruptly.

I appreciate the song but it's just nothing i'd like to listen to.

A lot of the links/pics I've posted in the last year or so, if they're dead, there is a probability that I have archived it on Archive.today.

If you need to reach me for any reason, message me on Hip Hop Shelter.

When I listen to this song I feel like Em is making a confession. He's been holdin this in for so long he's just yelling it all out and getting it off his chest.
Still can't decide if it contributes positively or negatively to the album though…
