I like it honestly. I think the singing is better than Hailie's song, and verses can't be compared really. Old Eminem would have never did the third verse like that, but I felt this verse was more emotional, and some bars were really really nice to me. Hailie's song has some hard bars like

"So here's what I'm facing, three felonies, six years of probation
I've went to jail for this woman, I've been to bat for this woman
I've taken bats to people's backs, bent over backwards for this woman
Man, I shoulda seen it coming, what'd I stick my penis up in?
Wouldn't have ripped the pre-nup up if I'da seen what she was fucking
But fuck it, it's over, there's no more reason to cry no more
I got my baby, baby the only lady that I adore, Hailie"

Those are just really hard bars, really well written and delivered. While Stronger Than I Was is more emotional imo atleast, and I really liked it. Like for example:

"But this morning I finally stood up
Held my chin up, finally showed a sign
Of life in me for the, first time since you left me
And left me with nothing but shattered dreams
And the life we could've, had and we could've been
But I'm breaking out of this slump I'm in
Pulling myself out of the dumps once again
I'm getting up once and for all, fuck this shit"

Delivered really well with emotion. I probably pick Hailie's song overall 'cause I like the verse better, however I feel some of you are really underrating STIW rap verse just 'cause the way he delivers it is kinda different from what we're used to in his career.

BOOM

But yeah a lot of the Recovery hooks don't fit Eminem. However the female hooks on 'MMLP2 do fit.

I think Stronger Than I Was is misplaced on the album tbh. I hate how it comes right after Brainless...such a change in mood. I feel if it came after Legacy or headlights it'd be received slightly better as for the song itself is rate it 6/10. Joint weakest with Survival

Yeah it flows into The Monster without to much trouble but I just hate how it starts so abruptly at the end of Brainless. Got to be honest - I usually skip it when it comes on :shifty:

I'm not sure how I feel about it. Probably the worst on the album for me.

Stronger Than I Was, to me, is a beautiful track - especially the third verse. The rhythm and flow of the third verse is so fucking phenomenal that I cannot accurately depict how i feel about it in words. Motherfuckers hate on it because he is singing? because it doesn't sound good musically? I think for STIW, the musicality is secondary; the overall tone and feel/vibe/concept is primary. IF STIW actually features quality vocals in the singing department, it wouldn't have the same raw tone - it wouldn't have that authentic quality to it (this only applies to this track) imo.

In addition, on the MMLP, 'Kim' is the only "love" song - whether negative or positive. On MMLP2 - STIW is, like the first one, the only "love" song. If one compares the two tracks, the difference is unreal - it is amazing. The difference forces the listener to recognize how much shit/growth Eminem has gone through since 1999/2000. STIW, like it or not, is the MMLP2 version of 'Kim' - even if the track is not explicitly or directly about Kim.

Last point, this was stated earlier by some other random ass user: STIW is CLEARLY a meaningful song to eminem. He produced it himself, fuckin sang the first two verses and didn't give a fuck if it sounded "bad" or "amateur", and then not ONE interviewer asked him about the track which makes you think that STIW was one of those 'off limits' topics. One cannot simply listen to the MMLP2 and ignore how STIW fucking surprised the shit out of them on the first listen and have no questions. When I first listened, I was like "what the actual fuck is going on right now?".

Anyways, this is why I think people hating on STIW need to give it a chance and see it for what it really is.

I get the feeling ganjakush has a 3 digit IQ and I fucks with him/her.
Quality post for sure!

In other words; I agree 100% and I love this song, mainly because of the rawness of it.

Favorite part: "...just lay here with me, baby hoooold me pleeaaase."

:y: that part is dope, totally unexpected - I have never heard Eminem use different artistic techniques regarding melody and pitch in his singing before. He usually simply layers over his vocals in different pitches on his choruses from the past, never really using a falsetto tone like he did here. Other instances where I think he explored his singing techniques and composition was the chorus for Talk to Me (by Young Jeezy) and that little bridge on Beautiful Pain (excellent track btw). Of course there is Hailie's Song too - that was something totally new for him at the time so it counts as a case of musical exploration as well. Eminem should continue in this direction; I don't mean with the singing necessarily but with the mentality of trying new methods of music composition, playing with melodies etc.

On a separate note: that 3rd verse :worship: It is masterful.

The part where he says "I'm still angry, yeah I may be, I may never trust someone" gives me chills. I think his singing had improved a helluva lot since 2002

I love that part too.

Too bad we'll never listen to this alive. I don't think he will do it. Plus would be very difficult because of all the voice layers they used in this song.

Yeah he has confessed he cant sing. And thats what makes this song so special. He steps out of his comfort zone just to bring a message. I love it.
