First Verse Of Real Slim Shady

Postby MikeNUFC » Feb 28th, '12, 16:39

Is absolute and utter genius. Very few people could craft a verse as hilarious as that with such a strong, solid underlying tone about the hypocrisy of censorship.

Every line is crafted well, and the structure is immense. Every line links to the next so well, with that underlying message of hypocrisy working in virtually every one:

Didn't just say what I think he did, did he? > 'Dr Dre's dead, he's locked in my basement

Feminist women love Eminem, I'm sick of him > Yeah but he's so cute though

Screws up in my head loose > No worse than what's going on in your parent's bedrooms

Wanna get on TV and just let loose > cool for Tom Green to hump a dead moose

Expect them not to know what a woman's clitoris is > They got the Discovery Channel don't they?

And then the great link to Bloodhound Gang, before a little swipe at his lyrics being taken out of context (happy to see Tom Green hump a dead animal, make a whole song about bumming, Bloodhound Gang to sing about doing it like animals, but Em can't make a few small jokes). I like how the line can be taken two ways as well (it can be construed as a swipe at homophobia in the media, although could be a bit of a reach and probably unintentional)

It's just line after line of ripping into media hypocrisy, but done it such a playful and bouncy way that despite it being a really solid message, it can quite easily be lost, and probably is by most casual fans. It's serious but hilarious.

Not only one of his best verses, but probably one of my favourites. Very few artists could pull of somthing like that.

And to think he threw it together from random lines in his notepad, trying to create a catchy first single.
