What did you think of the lyricism on Survival?

Postby Evil Twin » Aug 25th, '13, 14:31

What was your thoughts? I thought it was pretty great, there were a ton of rhymes all over the place and he brought some fantastic energy in this song. I love verses where Em just blows my mind with rhymes.

We're gonna rock this house until we knock it down
So turn the volume loud, cause it's mayhem 'til the a.m.
So baby make just like K-Fed and let yourself go, let yourself go
Say fuck it before we kick the bucket
Life's too short to not go for broke

Go Berzerk!

Definitely a step above Recovery
It seems that the effort was natural, you know? Not forced, simply amazing the way it came

Awesome lyricism.

No weak lines, great rhyming, good wit, genuine self-confidence... cool ass shit.

Don't see how the mere mention of his butt or the word butt is weak... like, people keep quoting that line with facepalms like it's automatically weak because he said butt :confusion: ... it's a good line, says he just shitted on the mic and it's in reference to the posture of a bow...

I love the "I get excited by the sight of my blood, you're in a fight with a nut" line and delivery too, as somebody else already said - Prime Slim would paint it for you rather than just say it, which is what I'm hoping for more on the album BUTt... it genuinely sounds like he's enjoying the juggling of personas again as apposed to just being committed to saying X crazy things per song...

Like, that line and whole segement, it sounded authentic.

The way he bounced around his delivery is awesome, the "I can ADJUUUUUST" sounds like... clear and smooth almost like audio air, and energetic.

I just hope to FUCK the music and hooks are not like this. If they are... it'll just fucking sound like Recovery but not only that, that music and hook... they're so generic. If this was just for COD... cool as fuck, but if that's seriously his musical direction... wow, i just can't believe he'd 'bow out' at this point, with such generic musical backing. I hope the 'nightmare' comments ring more true.

Song has amazing rhyming.

This is it, it's what you eat, sleep, piss and shit
Live, breathe, your whole existence just consists of this
Refuse to quit, fuse is lit, can't diffuse the wick
I don't do this music shit, I lose my shit

Great rhyming and totally consistent, no filler :y:

Lyrics mean nothing if there's a weak delivery; Eminem surpassed that level already. Delivery is powerful and perfect for the type of Lyrics, Reminds me of the Prime Eminem and this type the screaming flow works to the point.
Specially the lines such as

Came up rough, came to ruffle feathers, nah, egos
I ain't deflate enough, last chance to make this whole stadium erupt

you can feel the enunciation even when you read it normally and that is some really unique creativity.
Rough +Feathers + Egos (eagles) + Deflate.. everything is perfectly connected and placed in an order.

So get your ideas, stack your ammo
But don't come unless you come to battle, I'm mad now jump in the saddle

at this point you can really get hyped up imho.

and then

But my respect is overdue, I'm showing you the flow no one do
Cause I don't own no diploma for school, I quit!

The flow on I don't own no diploma for school = Legendary and it connects to the previous line I'm showing you the flow no one do.

That diploma line really is genius, and the delivery is just :flutter:

It's fucking awesome. Witty, sharp, authentic. More authentic than most Recovery songs, if not all of them. I don't mind the beat, I really enjoy it, but I really do hope the music takes a darker approach and a more hip hop one as well...I don't wanna hear soft-rock guitar beats. Now this one, this one is awesome and I love it, it's very stadium-esque. I just want hip hop music, not fuckin rock music with rapping in it.

There were a lot of weak points. I pretty much skip the second verse when I listen to the song. BUT THE SECOND VERSE IZ PERFECTTTT....I know stan, I know.

"From the beginning, it wasn't 'bout the ends
It was 'bout busting raps and standing for something, fuck an acronym
Cut the fucking act like you're happy, I'm fucking back again
With another anthem, why stop when it doesn't have to end?
It ain't over 'til I say it's over – enough when I say enough

"This is it, it's what you eat, sleep, piss and shit
Live, breathe, your whole existence just consists of this
Refuse to quit, fuse is lit, can't diffuse the wick
I don't do this music shit, I lose my shit
Ain't got shit to lose, it's the moment of truth
It's all I know how to do, as soon as I get thrown in the booth, I spit"

Lines like that give me hope for the new album. That being said, the album has to be a lot better than this song to be a good album. If we get 15 survival quality songs, it will be Recovery part 2.

I've been lurking around this forum for awhile and just recently joined but I have to 2nd (or more like 5th) that EmBase is a good poster!

Also anyone complaining about him saying "butt" in the song probably didn't pay much attention to the lines.

"I ain't taking a bow, I'm stabbing myself
With a fucking knife in the gut, while I'm wiping my butt!
Cause I just shitted on the mic, and I like getting cut
I get excited at the sight of my blood, you're in a fight with a nut!"

Is that not some Shady shit right there? Come on

I just like the fact that he didn't have any corny ass lines, like he's been having recently. Well, maybe Achoo then Achieve, but even that wasn't that bad imo
