How did you get into Eminem?

Postby yoda you can call me » Apr 23rd, '14, 15:40

A friend of mine had the SSLP and i had a listen but it didn't grab my attention. I was too into other genres at the time, mainly dance music. Then whilst he had released TRSS as a single (which i hated at the time :facepalm ), I randomly heard Kim and Stan on one of my sisters cassette tapes, and i was immediately blown away by them. it changed everything, i went back to the SSLP and loved it. Me and my friends had the MMLP1 on heavy rotation for fucking months. From that, i got into Dre, NWA and worked my way through almost every old school hiphop artist. I've been a huge fan of hiphop ever since, it's my number one genre now

what about you guys?

With Encore actually, the first music i heard from him was that album, and at first I didnt even know he was white, which is weird to think about now but i was pretty young in 2004. Then I met a friend at this place my dad worked at for fun, and he showed me a bunch of MMLP and some Eminem show, and was blown away. Been following the dudes music since.

My mom told me I used to run around singing something like "piss then loop" when I was a kid. (TRSS)

I got into eminem when I "stole" Curtain call from my dad. At first I only liked the fast-paced songs, then all of them, (still don't like mockingbird or COMC tho) then I started downloading everything.

I heard Stan in 2000. That was in the cool days when I didn't know how to use the internet and I went and bought CDs.

Just as a bit of perspective: before I even heard his first song, the people that were talking about Eminem around me were saying that he was a criminal who raped his mother and pistol-whips people, and also happened to rap. I heard "rap" and immediately thought he must be black and still thought he was black when I heard Stan.

So here I was, this stupid young kid, who thought I was listening to an actual criminal's music...which adds another layer of genius to the song "Criminal" as it was an actual perception people had of him had at the time.

I saw Stan video on some charts on TV and felt in love with M&M :flutter:

first full CD I've listened to was Eminem Show, than Encore came out and I got a copy from a friend, Encore sounded amazing and after one week it turned out that this was MMLP, not Encore

I think I don't have to say what was my reaction to the real Encore

My 4th grade bitch principal took my MMLP cause a girl on the bus heard swearing through my headphones and told on me. My dad went and bitched her out (which was one of the greatest things I've still ever seen to this day) and got my CD and I never went back

Hell yeah, witnessing his rise to fame and all the controversy that came with it was awesome.

Ah, the good old days when MTV gave a shit about music. I was locked onto MTV all day everyday, I turned it on as soon as I got home from school.

I remember I'd watch TRL for Eminem's videos, and then watch Direct Effect with Sway and FunkMaster Flex. :worship:

I miss those times.

Yeah, i'm glad i got to witness that era. he took over everthing. It was Em mania

To be fair, it's easier to criticize Eminem now because he's just not as good as he used to be.

If nothing else, Em really knew how to hold the world by the balls back then. The fact alone that people walked around saying that speaks volumes.

It took a little bit of lubricant, and he struggled a bit, but eventually I got into Em.
