If anybody influenced him to do that, it was prolly Rubin, since Em's circle is small and apparently made up of yes-men.

So I'm not trying to get anyone riled up by asking this, but at the time wasn't the general reaction on here to Relapse a disappointment?

Was the reaction to Recovery even worse? I'm seriously asking because when Relapse came out I was reading this forum all the time, so I saw the reactions as they came out - but with Recovery I wasn't reading here at the time, so I missed all of the first reactions. I liked Recovery a lot more than Relapse, when did it become a negative thing for him to sound "Recovery'ish" with new stuff? Is it just that it was 3 years ago and it's time for something new? Or did people on here really view Recovery as a step in the wrong direction?

The Holocaust, Rwanda, the 2003 Invasion of Iraq and Manning-gate were sad moments in an equally sad history of the human race.

Cyrus's VMA performance only showed how sad we really are at overplaying a little girl having fun doing whatever the fuck she wants to do.

We just don't want Em to do twice the same album. Each of his CD got its own personnality. When Recovery got released, people loved it. But it aged badly. Relapse on the other hand grows on people and turned to be a fantastic piece of work.

Uh, yeah sure, still you got my point, right ? I mean these events really are calamitous, no one will argue about that.
Miley's just shameful.

My general impression was that Relapse got a 75% positive rating here and Recovery was like 95%.

History has been re-written over the past 18 months or so. Recovery was given much love here.

@FalseProphet, I think the problem with Recovery was that, after the initial excitement and freshness had faded, there were little niggling annoyances that stuck out with each repeat listen; the corny punchlines, the production, the forced delivery etc. that quickly transformed into full blown hate.
The annoyances on Relapse were fewer and less apparent, which would account for the relatively short period of hate it recieved before being loved once more.

Makes sense, despite being really solid and well polished, Recovery did have some pretty cringe worthy lines "I guess that's why they call it window pain"

So I understand people getting sick of Recovery, especially since it was so overplayed by the media - it just comes as a surprise that the Recovery hate transformed into Relapse praise. Not that I think Relapse isn't good, just seems weird. I'd much rather have MMLP2 be in the realm of Recovery than Relapse.

Feeling good about this album. Dre plus Rubin plus Em should be deadly. It beats the watered down pop hip hop beats going around right now. If he brings back some MMLP mentality then this could be very good.
